Gun foes target Inver Grove Heights manufacturer

Kevin Duchschere, Star Tribune
May 19, 2004

One of the best reasons to bolster the federal ban on semiautomatic assault weapons, gun-control advocates say, is right in Inver Grove Heights.

That's the home of Vulcan Arms Inc., a gun manufacturer that has been in business for fewer than two years and that, according to an antigun group in Washington, D.C., sells a greater variety of "copycat assault weapons" than any other gunmaker in the country.

[...]

Gun-control advocates will hold a news conference this morning in Minneapolis, focusing on Vulcan Arms and the 10-year-old federal ban on assault weapons. The ban will expire in September unless it is renewed by Congress and President Bush.

Not only should the ban be extended, said Rebecca Thoman of Citizens for a Safer Minnesota, it should be rewritten to prohibit more weapons and to close loopholes that allow companies such as Vulcan to deal in firearms that she said are only slightly different from illegal assault weapons.

[...]

"We can say unequivocally that we've never seen a product line as broad when it comes to assault weapons and military guns as Vulcan's," she said. "Usually, they choose one or another area to focus on.

"This is a company whose entire product line is designed to evade the federal assault ban."

"only slightly different from illegal"

Isn't that another way of saying "legal?

Bookmark the bang_list. This is not a "ping" list (no one maintains a list of interested FReepers). It is a do-it-yourself, see-what's-been-bumped-to-the list. Anyone can bump an article to the list by sending it To: *bang_list Then, interested FReepers can (bookmark and) check the list periodically to see new articles. Please do not ask me to "add you to the list." It doesn't work like that. This is better than a ping list because (1) anyone can bump an article to the list, and any interested parties can see the list of articles 24x7.

And, these have been used in exactly HOW MANY crimes?

They have AR clones, AK clones, Galil clones, MP5 clones, and .50BMG rifles.

All the evil guns in one convenient shopping experience.

Call or snailmail your Congresscritters to make darn sure the AWB does in fact "sunset!"

High-cap mag ban needs to be flushed down the same pipe.

Vulcan Arms

They only thing Vulcan Arms should be shut down for is for producing sub-par products.

In fact, they had to rename themselves Vulcan Arms from Hesse because of their bad products, and lack of following.

If you wanted to purchase a "quality" V15-100 type firearm,
where would you turn. Just curious....

The standard-cap ban and the AWB are the same bill. They'll both sunset.

I got a nice letter back from Kay Baily Hutchinson about this issue and she said she'd fight it.

Trust me, it does a lot of good to write/email/call these guys.

And that, answered my next question.

V15-100 type firearm

Well, if your looking for a quality AR-15 type.....I would go to Rock River Arms. Great stuff. In fact, there's a great article in this weeks Shotgun News about them.

Oog. Thanks for that bit of information. Here I was all excited to learn about Vulcan -- my wife wants a new AR-15 for her birthday -- but now I'll go back to looking at Bushmasters and Olympics. One of my shooting buddies has a Hesse Jam-O-Matic and spends more time fixing it than shooting it.

Bushmaster also has a new AR-15 type in .308 Win if you're interested in a larger caliber. I don't know anything about it except what they print in their literature. It's possible someone here has had some experience with it.

Don't forget to check into Armalite (M-15?) as well. For a good check on pricing, I go to: http://www.impactguns.com.
