'Global dimming' may stop the Earth overheating

It's official: the world is getting darker. Scientists now agree that as cloud cover and particles in the atmosphere increase, the amount of radiation reaching us from the Sun is falling. And although they are nervous about raising the idea, they think the effect may help protect us from global warming.

If it declines at 3% per year, it would be half of its 1950 level somewhere around the year 2170. However, it'll be at 75% of its 1950 level in about another 30 years (sometime in the 2030s).

I meant 'per decade', and I did run the calculations on a per decade basis, so they should be right.

Of course I didn't actually take the time to read the article, but my take is that the increased radiation is making the inhabitants of the earth duskier.

Raising .97 to some power will get you .50. Using logarithms,

x(ln .97) = ln( .50).

Solving for x we get

x = 22.76 decades = 227.6 years.

The conclusion is that the sunlinght will be at 50% of 1950 levels at 2177 approximately. Sounds like garbage to me.
