Namibia wastes no time and begins land redistribution

Windhoek - President Sam Nujoma has made good on his promise - made barely two weeks ago - to drive "minority, racist farmers" off the land to make way for blacks.

The Namibian government has started taking commercial land for resettlement, following its announcement in February of a change in its willing-seller, willing-buyer policy.

This week the first notice of expropriation was issued to the white owner of a "trouble" farm, from where six black employees had been illegally dismissed and evicted last year.

It was issued on Monday by Hifikepunye Pohamba, Minister of Lands, Resettlement and Rehabilitation.

The owner of Ongombo West, a farm 30km west of Windhoek, Hilde Renate Wiese, was asked to name the price she expected for her property.

"You are cordially invited to make an offer to sell the property to the state and to enter into further negotiations in that regard," reads the notice. Wiese has 14 days to respond to the notice.

Pohamba told parliament that: "Where land is expropriated, compensation to the owner shall be based, primarily, upon the market value of the land".

Recently Nujoma, addressing a May Day rally at Karibib, 200km north-west of Windhoek, said white farmers who evicted their workers would be targeted in the expropriation exercise.

"Some of the whites are behaving as if they came from Holland or Germany with land ... My government will not, tolerate insult in that way."

In the notice of expropriation of Wiese's farm, Pohamba said the move was being undertaken in accordance with the Agricultural (Commercial) Land Reform Act of 1995.

The act allows the state to, when it considers it appropriate, redistribute land to those who do not own land or those previously kept from owning it.

Although the workers won a court case against their eviction and dismissal from Ongombo West earlier this year, Wiese did not allow them to return to live on the farm.

The commercial farmers' body, the Namibian Agricultural Union, has urged government to target farms owned by absentee landlords and foreigners, and not Namibians.

But Pohamba said government would take "any" farm as long as "it can be utilised better". "It can be from Namibians, whether they are black or white or whether the farms are productive or not," he said.

The expropriation of farms in Namibia has sparked fears of chaotic land grabs like that of Zimbabwe among opposition leaders. Land evaluators from Zimbabwe are in Namibia to assist with the land expropriation drive. - Independent Foreign Service

Isn't it amazing how little comment such an event generates?

I guess those "minority" farmers don't matter.

Wonder what happens when American demographics change such that Whites are a minority?

Ooops! I shouldn't ask that...it's a thought-crime!

Yup. But most of the world is too ignorant to see that. Bizarre Orwellian world we live in.

While most American blacks seemed repulsed by their African heritage when they actually see it first hand, my bet is that there will be some well known American blacks who will wind up with a small but choice piece of this property. Pillars of the black community like Jesse, Rangel, Sharpton, Maxine and Jackson-Lee are my bets to share in this refricanization. Also, it will shut them up should they have otherwise wanted to say something.

didn't you hear about the public school that went nuts when a white south african immigrant US citizen was nominated for an African American award? It is not about equality it is about favortism.

The book about Jessie Jackson's shakedown practices outlines it well. The most racist people in the USA are the "african american" race baiters and their quiet enablers of the 92% who vote democrat party.

"Some of the whites are behaving as if they came from Holland or Germany with land ... My government will not, tolerate insult in that way."

No they did not bring it with them, they just invested a couple of generations turning raw land into farms, towns, cities, roads, power plants, water systems, etc.

Then, just as the mexicans are trying to do now here in the u.S., when the heavy lifting is done and the completed infrastructure makes for a comfortable life, the skum show up and claim that it belongs to them.

It is a self cleansing phenomena, as the lazy skum that want to claim that the improved lifestyle was theirs all along and was "stolen by evil whitey" can not escape the one finite thing they can not change, themselves.

That is when they turn the improved infrastructure they took over into the same third world $&i+ hole they came from, which makes it worthless.
