FOX News Channel Beats CNN and MSNBC Combined in April Tuesday April 27, 3:38 pm ET FNC Captures 10 Out of Top 11 Cable News Shows For the Month

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 27, 2004--FOX News Channel (FNC) beat CNN and MSNBC combined in viewership and demographics in the Prime Time and 24-Hour time periods for April '04, according to Nielsen Media Research. In addition, FNC continued its dominance capturing ten out of the top eleven shows in cable news. CNN's only show in the top eleven, Larry King Live, remained at number four with 1,335,000 viewers. King trailed FNC's The O'Reilly Factor (2,240,000 viewers), Hannity & Colmes (1,638,000 viewers) and The FOX Report with Shepard Smtih (1,465,000 viewers) respectively. *

While all news networks suffered a drop-off from last April's ratings, FNC demonstrated the smallest drop in both the Prime Time and 24-hour time periods. FNC averaged 1,497,000 viewers in Prime Time, whereas CNN and MSNBC combined to average only 1,156,000 viewers. MSNBC lost nearly three-quarters of its April 2003 Prime Time audience and CNN plummeted 63% in Prime Time viewership. **

In the 24-Hour Time period, FNC averaged 884,000 viewers vs. the 713,000 viewers CNN and MSNBC drew collectively. Again, MSNBC saw 72% of its audience vaporize and CNN almost matched it with 69% of its audience vanishing from April '03. **

In the advertiser friendly demo of persons 25-54, FNC averaged 502,000 persons in Prime Time and 322,000 persons in the 24-Hour period vs. CNN and MSNBC's combined totals of 347,000 persons in Prime Time and 247,000 persons in the 24-Hour time period. See attached chart for 18-49 and 18-34 demos.**

April's losers included CNN's much hyped Paula Zahn Now and Wolf Blitzer Live, down 72% and 65% respectively from Apr. '03. On MSNBC, Countdown with Keith Olbermann and Lester Holt Live were down 69% and 82% respectively from their Apr. '03 averages.

FOX News Channel (FNC) is a 24-hour general news service covering breaking news as well as political, entertainment and business news. For more than two years, FNC has been the most watched cable news channel and currently presents ten out of the top eleven cable news programs. Owned by News Corp., FNC is available in more than 85 million homes.

Great news! While FoxNews isn't perfect, it sure as heck beats the alternatives.

The whole ratings card they have for all the shows is a hoot.

Norville average is tied with the National Geographic shows on MSNBC.

You know the left never figures it out. They constantly tell their followers, we are the elite and we will use government to take care of you.

Guess what CNN. The rank and file Democrat believes you. They don't watch news on TV. They don't read magazines, they don't listen to talk radio, and they don't read newspapers or magazines.

CNN and MSNBC think that this nation is evenly divided,a therefore the leftist audience should be as big as the audience on the right. Rank and file Democrats delegate control of their political lives to the elites that run it. Unless the Democratic leadership realy puts in an effort they don't even vote in primaries. Look at this years turn out. Few if any elites will watch other elites on TV. They will appear on the shows but not watch.

Until the media understands that the only sizeable audience for news channels is on the right, they will continue to lose audience.

Have you noticed that Larry King has started to interviewing Show biz celebrities a lot more oftent than he used to? He may have figured out left wing guests spouting left wing garbage will not draw an audience.

It's too much entertainment for my liking. Even so, it's head and shoulders above any liberal news source.

Just saw Keith Olberman on MSNBC echo Kerry's rant about the GOP attack machine from his ABC appearance with Charles Gibson.

Turned it right off because I saw the GMA show and Kerry was so far off base he makes Michael Jackson look sane by comparison..

Amazing how Fox News Channel has reputation of being far right when all it does is present both sides. The on-air people, with notable exceptions, tend to be conservative or somewhat conservative, so I guess that's what the libs are talking about.

Yes, equally divided between thinkers and surface-thinking "feelings" people. Equally divided between producers and those with their hands out. Equally divided between those who follow politics and current events closely and those oblivious to them until manipulated by liberal politicians. Equally divided between those who listen to conservative talk radio and and those who choose rap crap or top 40. Equally divided between genuine patriots and those who define patriotism to fit their pattern of behavior.

I love FOXNews, but of all the programs they have I will knock furniture down to get to the livingroom to watch Special Report. As a matter of fact, my wolfhound can be sound asleep at my feet in the computer room and if the opening riff for SR comes on he automatically gets up and goes into the living room. LOL, it's one of those Pavlovian responses.

Bears repeating, as it happens here as well.
