What an idiot Nick Jimenez is. He confuses freedom of the press with press freedom from criticism.

He is the one who clearly fails to understand the US Constitution, particularly the first ammendment. No where does it promise the press anything more than they can publishes whatever they wish.

Mr. Jimenez might notice in that same ammendment the US Consitution promises Mr. Franks the right to say whatever he wishes, including criticism of the press. But if he did notice this Mr. Jimenez might actually understand the US Constitution and not be the bigger threat to US freedom than Mr. Frakns that he is.

The thing that aggravates me no end is the medias constant emphasis on the daily death toll of U.S. troops. as if it's someone elses fault other than the terrorists. Lousy spinning if you ask me.

Well, I, too, was in Uncle Sam's Army in Vietnam during the Tet offensive, and that may be one of the few things that Franks and I share. It's obvious that we have different views of how democracy and a free press are supposed to work.

Then he must know that even though Tet was a victory for the United States, Walter Cronkite and other various low forms of life portrayed it as a defeat. That's the same thing that the press is trying to accomplish today in Iraq. Calling them scumbags is an insult to scum.

Tommy will be in the news big time this week. He is the 'star' of the new Woodward book (watch out tonight on C-BS!).

Do I detect that the reporters of the Washington Bureau of Al-Jazerra have been reached and they don't like it?

TOO Fin BAD!

I would not call it an attack. More akin to uncovering the varmints that are smelling up the place.

Nick Jimenez doesn't see the bias; however, if anyone were to shoot off a response to his tripe, there's no chance that their letter would be printed in the Viewpoints page.

These characters are truly hard to understand, although their tactics aren't hard to see through. Damn them.

"He confuses freedom of the press with press freedom from criticism."
You nailed it, JLS. They can dish it out but they can't take it.
"...fails to understand the US Constitution..."
Jimenez believes in the "living" constitution, the one that changes according to what you'd like it to mean. And just like Natalie Maines, he believes that if somebody criticizes his speech, they are impinging on his freedom of speech. He believes his freedom of speech and press includes the freedom to silence his critics.

" But the clincher was his belief that if not for the press's criticism of the White House and skewed view, in his eyes, of what was happening in Iraq, the renewed fighting in Iraq would not have occurred."

The Clincher ?? It's the absolute truth.

consider what you did to make him so angry.

That would require a degree of introspection the media is incapable of. They are consistantly told they fall beneath TRIAL LAWYERS in the esteem of their fellow citizens and yet they blow it off.

You can't get it through their thick heads they might be doing something wrong.

My advice to you, Mr. Jimenez: Rather than go to war with Gen. Franks, consider what you did to make him so angry.

Precisely. After all, aren't the media the ones who are always demanding that we understand why America's enemies hate us so much?? Seems that the people in the media should be asking themselves why the American public hate them so much.

Right! Aren't you supposed to "try and understand the reasons" the "enemy" is angry with you? /disgust (As if liberals would ever take their own advice - they know it's bad...

The thing that aggravates me no end is the medias constant emphasis on the daily death toll of U.S. troops. as if it's someone elses fault other than the terrorists.

If they are going to publish a daily death toll it should include what we are giving as well as what we are getting. It ain't a bad ratio.

Right on, General Franks! Now that he is retired, he can speak out. I hope he continues to do so.

When you buy a liberal newspaper like the N.Y. Slimes, L.A. Slimes or any other rag, you are contributing to this insanity. When you watch CBS, NBC, CNN, etc., same thing. We read the N.Y. Post, NewsMax and watch FoxNews. Hit them where it hurts - in the pocketbook. And listen to Rush - he reads the liberal crapoola and then reports on their insanity.
