Ambush, murder and kidnap: another day in 'post-war' Iraq By Patrick Cockburn in Abu Ghraib 10 April 2004

First there were staccato bursts of fire from Iraqi guerrillas on the other side of the road. Then came the whoosh of RPG launchers. American soldiers on their Humvees immediately fired back with shuddering machine guns and M-16s. We rapidly drove off the road on to a piece of waste ground along with several other cars. We jumped out of the doors and lay on the ground. Bassil al-Kaissi, our driver, shouted to other Iraqis who had also taken cover: "Take off your keffiyehs [Arab head dresses] or the Americans will think you are mujahedin and kill you."

95% of Iraq peaceful and progressive. 5% overrun by mob violence from religious fantatics. And the "News media" wonders why no one takes them seriously any more?

I have been over and over and over. Thank God George Bush and not some of these irresponsbile Talk Radio ranters with their "Bomb them all and get out" spew is in charge. As anyone who has served in our military knows, WE are not Nazis. WE do not practise Collective Resposniblity. EVEN if the order was given, such a clearly illegal order would NOT be obeyed. The surest way to lose this war would be to for Bush to listen to either the mindless rantings for either the hysteric Left or the Hard Right.

Dittoes on that, had to make the same explanations to FReepers, although turns out many are 'anti-war', they hate the idea of US military dying to make the ME a better place ...

I'm sure Bin Laden is smiling and loving this war and the gentle strategy being employed. He has the hated secular leader Saddam gone and now the US is losing troops daily AND rebuilding a future islamic state. Interestingly Germany and France now want American troops in Iraq. The French press especially are reveling in the chaos and violence and eagerly enjoying the news of our troops daily deaths.

"95% of Iraq peaceful and progressive.

If you consider that situation peaceful what do you consider violent? Does there have to be like ethnic cleansing or a mass genocide occuring for a situation to be unclassified as peaceful?

Sure, that is why the papers we captured with that Bin Lade Lt. was all in a panic about how their attack on US troops were failing and the people were not supporting their terrorists actions.

Try to pay attention to the point. 95% is peaceful. 5% is overrun with mob violence. Perhaps you should actually find out what is going on on the ground instead of hyperventilating about the 5% that is violent. What % of the USA is overrun with gang violence?
