FOLLOWERS of the radical Iraqi Shiite leader Moqtada Sadr took over the governor's office in the British-controlled port city of Basra today. Dozens of armed Mehdi Army militiamen stormed the governor's office in the southern city at dawn, raising a green flag on the roof of the building, he said.
Mehdi Army militiamen were seen deployed inside and on the rooftop of the governor's office alongside policemen who had been inside the building when it was overtaken.
Four hours later there were no British troops in the area.
On Sunday, Sadr supporters seized a number of police stations and other public buildings in several Iraqi cities, including a major suburb of Baghdad, during a day of violent clashes.
The violence against US-led coalition troops left at least 24 Iraqis and up to nine coalition soldiers dead.

I agree with you to the extent that it is silly to believe that Iraq will ever be a western style democracy. It's been Babylon for thousands of years, and it isn't going to be a peaceful free democracy just because we say it is.
There is a reason that Saddam ran that country as ruthlessly as he did. That mentality is what it takes to control that part of the world.
I've been saying for a long time that a democratic Iraq is not worth the lives of our young men and women. We should have destroyed those cities, including the civilians a long time ago.

You will be taking on this enemy that our troops and allies are risking their lives for, under the
leadership of this administration, there - or in your own back yard, on your own.
Maybe both.
Anyone can criticize.
With the increasing ease of creating / obtaining WMDs, high-speed communications w/ encryption technology, mass transportation, and borders - that will remain porous - because of the logistics, as well as the protestations of our freedoms being curtailed - at least until another 9-11 occurs - it is a guarantee in the modern age that we will have jihadist nutcases eventually obtaining and using WMDs to mass-murder as many as they can.
Our troops and those "neocons" you hold in contempt will defend your freedom - with or without your gratitude, or approval - as long as they (we) are able.

"neocons are a narrow grp of cabal pushing the US into the Iraqi war"
Bull.
That is just the liberal lie and calling them a cabal just feeds into the anti-Semitism evident in those who heap scorn upon the so-called neo-cons.
Is Rumsfeld a neo-con, in your opinion?
Is Bush?
Is Powell?
Is Rice?
Where do Rumsfeld, Bush, Powell, or Rice differ from the so-called neo-cons in their approach to Iraq?
You are a believer in conspiracy theories. Put on your tin foil hat.
To: Bonny Dick
How about a more reasonable list of the cabal -
Doug Feth
Richard Perle
Rumsfeld
potentially - Cheney -
Rice, Powell is not -
Bush - I hope not -
then you have the frame throwers over the weekly standard crowd.
But the most corrupted is none other than Perle.

And just where do Perle, Rumsfeld, and Cheney differ policy in regards to Iraq with Rice, Powell, and Bush?
To: kjam22
I'm glad I don't have Bush's job.
Because I'm afraid it's time to do some serious killing in Iraq.

Thanks for the ping!

Come now, you don't sound afraid. By "serious killing" do you include babies in the womb and crib? Just wondering.

Dang, that's a better end-of-the-world story than "Left Behind" is!
I say we attack hezbollah right now and take their southern Lebanon outposts, you know, the one near Mt ARMAGEDDON.

Looks like all their civilian supporters are there in the enthusiastic crowd. Must be dozens. The lieutenant to the left of sword-guy knows he is looking into the gates of hell.

I caught your well-reasoned responses to her nonsense.
I notice she has not managed to tell us just where the people she calls neocons differ on what we need to do in Iraq.
Spouting off nonsense about evil cabals and blaming everything on neocons is symptomatic of liberals and conspiracy theories.
