Two Republican U.S. Senate hopefuls visited Mountain Home this week, both speaking to the Republican Party at its monthly meeting Tuesday.

Andy Lee and Jim Holt will challenge each other in the May 18 primary. The winner will challenge Democratic incumbent Sen. Blanche Lincoln for her seat in the U.S. Senate in November's election.

Lee also is a proponent of the Fair Tax referendum, which calls for a national sales tax. According to Lee, it would eliminate Social Security and federal, payroll, inheritance and gift taxes.

Yet another, making the NRST an issue in his run for the Senate.

John Linder in the House & Saxby Chambliss Senate, offer a comprehensive bill to kill all income and payroll taxes outright, and provide a IRS free replacement in the form of a pure consumption tax:

When you see DeLay Calling for National Sales Tax in the next session, and the number of co-sponsors for the legislation up to 46 & climbing steadily. I would say we have a good shot at it.

Expectation is to break 100 co-sponsors by July, if that happens, that at least is striking a match for a launch.

Carrie, when she was National Director for AFFT, introduced me to the idea of a "tipping point". The idea is that momentum for any revolutionary idea builds slowly at first but at some time it finally builds enough momentum that inertia is working FOR it rather than AGAINST it. It is hard to predict when we will get to that point, but I agree that all the signs you point to indicate that we are still building broad based popular support. I talk with people all the time who say "This is a no-brainer, why haven't we already done this?". When you think of how many jobs would be created and how much of the financial pain we see daily that could be alleviated, thats a tough one to answer.

The only answer I have come up with is that our society is very large and adopts change very slowly.

Yes, if you mean critical mass as the time when it becomes an issue for national debate, yes. If you mean passage, I only hope so!
