Beautifully written and very moving. I have tears in my eyes. What is so special about the piece is that the anger is contained, and redirected into a very effective coiled spring, that snaps at just the right moments. Kudos to the author.

I came across this metaphor of green bananas to short half lifes, about ten years ago. It struck me then as very apt. I wonder who coined it?

Don Corleone: "Don't buy any green bananas"
Implication: (you won't live long enough to enjoy eating them ripe.)
nice sounding.
"ah yes, we have no bananas, we have no bananas for you...."

Was killing Yassin smart? That's the only question. The morality of the killing is, to my mind, not an issue. And for the wisdom, who knows? Whether it ultimately weakens Hamas and makes it possible for the Palestinian Authority to take over when we pull out, as Sharon says he plans to, remains to be seen. What we've got in the meantime, is a stalemate of dread.I'll never understand their patience. I don't think that would be the case here. It'd be more like, "One dead 'spiritual leader' a day, every day. When you stop, we'll stop." If that doesn't work after awhile, well...Tokyo, Dresden, Berlin, etc.
