U.S. to defend Muslim girl wearing scarf in school

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The Justice Department announced Tuesday the government's civil rights lawyers have jumped into a legal case to support a Muslim girl's right to wear a head scarf in a public school.

Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Alex Acosta said government lawyers would support 11-year-old Nashala Hearn, a sixth-grade student who has sued the Muskogee, Oklahoma, Public School District for ordering her to remove her head scarf, or hijab, because it violated the dress code of the Benjamin Franklin Science Academy, which she attended.

The girl continued to wear her hijab to school and was subsequently suspended twice for doing so. The family appealed the suspensions, which were upheld by a district administrative hearing committee.

Her parents filed suit against the Muskogee School District last October.

On Tuesday the federal government filed a motion in a federal court in Muskogee to intervene in support of Nashala's position.

Read my post again - I wasn't arguing arguing against you. Islam DOES need to be stopped. It is dangerous particularly BECAUSE it believes the world must be subverted to Islamic law. What I believe is that we must pick our battles. The war of hearts and minds I was referring to was in regards to the culture war that exists in our country today between socialist liberals and those of us who would have America as it was meant to be. Telling little girls that they can't wear head scarves isn't going to win the war on terror, it isn't going to win the culture war, and, on the contrary, advocating such measures isn't going to draw people to our side. When you fight a war, you don't spread your forces out and attack everything all at one time - you mass your forces and attack something here, something there, hitting the important spots, like island hopping. I think that this is a silly target to go after at the moment when we have bigger concerns out there.

I don't know about that. 3000 murdered in 2001 and a war might make the Knights of the White Camellia just a fruitcake full of nuts--compared to the threat of the veil.

Yes. You see that, I see that, and I think most people on FR see that too. But, somehow, for some reason, there is a good portion of our population in this country that doesn't see it. We need numbers. I'm not advocating being moderate or tolerant here, I'm talking about picking our battles carefully so we can actually win both wars. KKK is nothing compared to the Islamists, but the KKK is somehow worse in the *psyche* of many.

re: The average American is more likely to see Muslims as people "just like us, with a different ancient religion" than as the followers of a religion that seeks to subvert the entire world.)))

Then they ought to pick up a Koran and start reading--as tedious and ill-written as it is. Let them understand how they are deceived by the Muslim apologists who love to quote the early verses of the "peaceful" Mecca Mohammed who had no army, and not dwell on the butchery of the Medina Mohammed who *did* have an army. Let those students also know that it is Islamic doctrine that it is the LATTER verses that will hold sway in an argument.

I absolutely agree. That is what I am talking about in regards to winning hearts and minds. When we can actually get people to understand that Islam really is every bit as bad as the KKK, it is then that you can speak out against its practices in our society.

Oh, so insightful, incisive, a pugnacious paragon of pithiness!

It means that you are welcome here and are free to pray as you wish. Just don't come here to force us to change to accommodate you. Come to America to be American not a hyphenated subgroup demanding special rights.

The head scarf of these muslims ought to be viewed the same way we view swastikas or female mutilation. If they want to wear that crap, do it back in their own damned country.
I agree.

God bless you for that wonderful post. I'm sick of my beliefs being put down and these muslims protected. I would protect them all the way to our borders and give them a wave "bye bye".

Right on! Do you realize those Neanderthals would deny a woman the right to kill her unborn child? The very cornerstone of American liberty, for which generations of Americans have sacrificed and died! We must purge those evil people from our midst!

Reason being that judges and juries know horse exhaust when they see it."

Yeh right, are you really keeping up with the times. Not if judges have an agenda. Remember the O.J. trial?

"Turkey is mostly Muslim --- and they don't wear the headgear"

Turkey banned it in schools a while back.

"burkas"

That's a complete covering. The headgear in the story is not radical, it is the traditional headgear.

"Except that her religion demands the overthrow of the US Constitution and the placing of Sharia law over this land and so isn't protected."

It's a recognized religion and it is protected. Both the rat party and the commie party demand the abolition of Freedom. They are still valid parties.

And why would they do that? Maybe their special knowledge about that so-called religion / cult?

'...plus it's not likely the other Amish would shoot that little girl in the head if she fails to wear the bonnet...'

They don't shoot them in the head; they rape them. Let's start from the beginning - Mohammed 'took to wife' at the age of nine, the little girl he married when she was six. As everything mohammed did remains sacred for all time, a female under islam is considered to be sexually available from the age of nine. That is the age the fanatics demand a girl begins to wear the islamic dress; nothing but hands are eyes are to be visible. Shoes must not 'click' or be otherwise heard on the pavement; too remeniscent of ankle bells worn by temple-prostitutes in the ME in ancient times. Visible hair is considered to be too sexually stimulating, thus the showing of hair by a female catagorises her as a harlot, as does any form of western clothing - short skirts, make-up etc means 'she is asking for it'

Fanatics take this dress-code one step further; they require little girls from the age of three to wear the hijab, claiming modesty can never be taught too young.
In France, secular and christian girls chose to wear the islamic style headcovering as a form of safety, therefor it's no wonder it has been banned in schools and public places. The number of packrapes throughout european countries, obviously not reported in the US press, is staggering.

In Australia, we regretfully share the same experience, although the muslim population is small, approx 300,000. What is most disturbing is that the perpetrators are often second or third generation descendants of muslim immigrants.

What you are experiencing with this, one, seemingly small event is only the beginning. Muslim men do not just rape western girls, they packrape their own girls to send a message to their families. Enforcement is what it is, nothing else.

Let me sum it up for you; It's a message heard loud and clear throughout Australia and Europe - cover up the girls or they will be packraped.
What will you do for the victims? Waving your Constitution at the victims will do nothing to help them.

So in essense it's a rape symbol --- hijab on --- don't rape, hijab off --- rape the whore. This isn't a symbol we should respect or allow. There is no freedom of expression involved ---definitely not from the Islamic view.

The Constitution in its historical context was designed to protect both Protestantism and Catholicism, but it was never designed to protect Islam.

That is untrue. At the time of the Founders they called it "Mahometism", but they were interested in protecting ALL religions, including Islam.
