Pope calls Jews, Catholics friends

Pope John Paul II told U.S. Jews visiting the Vatican Monday Catholics are their friends and appealed to the faithful to "deepen the friendship."
Members of both religions were under to obligation to practice neighborly love, the pontiff said in a meeting with representatives of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee. He called on the faithful to "deepen the friendship between the Jewish people and the Catholic Church."

Conservative he may be, but this non-Catholic has alwyas liked this old pope. Had an audience (public) with him when he was only 58 in 1978.

My Jewish wife and Catholic neighbor plan on seeing The Passion together. I just saw this film for the second time this weekend. Anybody who who found this movie to be too violent, or the slightest bit antisemitic, completely missed the point. The film is full of positive Jewish characters, many of whom do not appear to be followers of Christ.

Pope calls Jews, Catholics friends They definitely are. And this Pope has done much towards that end.
This Jew wishes him much health, peace, and satisfaction from long life filled so many good deeds. G-d bless him!

G-d bless him! What a nice thought. There are too many Jews, Protestants and even some Catholics here who have confused Pope John Paul II's consistant abhorance for all violence with a condemnation of Israel. Karol Wojtyla grew up in Krakow and had many Jewish friends as a child.
