Barry Farber Returns to the Airwaves

Legendary talk radio host Barry Farber has returned to the airwaves on the Talk Radio Network, where his homespun anecdotes and incisive political analysis can be heard every weeknight from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.

With his southern manner and "plain old niceness" [as those who know the radio raconteur testify], Farber would probably win a landslide victory in any "Iowa Caucus" of even liberal listeners.

But the North Carolina-born talker's conservative credentials are so rock solid that Fox News Channel's Sean Hannity, host of the number two radio show in the nation, regularly gives Farber on-air credit for propelling him towards a career in political talk.

To hear Farber tell it, his formula for churning out one fascinating radio broadcast after another is simple.

"When the go on air I tell the audience what I like and don't like about the world at that moment," he told NewsMax. "I give the phone number out and the next three hours are like a student riot in Ecuador."

And when he talks about riots and far away places, you can never be sure Farber isn't speaking from personal experience.

Before launching his broadcast career, the multilingual broadcaster covered stories in hot spots around the world. From his stint in the Norwegian Merchant Marine to leading Hungarians across the border after the 1956 revolution to beating Castro to Havana after the Batista regime collapsed - Farber was on the front lines.

For the average listener, it all makes for a crash course in current events and world history, and Farber does more than any host in the industry to make his broadcasts a learning experience. "This is the only talk show that assigns homework," he sometimes jokes.

Tune in to the new Barry Farber Show, weeknights, 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. on the Talk Radio Network.

Barry Farber, a North Carolinian, Jewish, conservative, witty and wise, managed to graduate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill without being infected by the notorious ultra-liberalism of that campus. Among the many, many positive things about this man, one can also say that he is a gentleman of the old school, rare and valuable these days.

I was able to listen to him for awhile, poor connection. He is indeed charming, genteel, intellectual, stimulating. Like Prager, due to epistemological foundation problems, he's hit-and-miss; but definitely worth a listen.

I am fortunate to have escaped with two degrees from UNC without losing my conservative values. The attempts at brainwashing never cease. There was a pocket of us in grad school that kept close together against the liberal onslaught, assisted by our Trusts and Estates professor, Paul Haskell, who sheltered us as best he could.

Gosh. I remember hearing Barry on the radio (and seeing his TV show) back around 1964 or 1965. He's got an immediately recognizable voice. Now if we can just get Joe Pyne back!
