A well-known Cincinnati television station news reporter faced arraignment today in Hamilton County Municipal Court on charges he had illegal sex with teen-age boys on numerous occasions over the past three years.
Stephen A. Hill, a general assignment reporter and formerly an investigative reporter at WCPO Channel 9, was arrested Friday on charges of unlawful sexual conduct with minors.
Police said Hill, 45, cut himself several times when police came to arrest him at his Avondale home. He was treated for his wounds at University Hospital and is expected to recover.
Hill had refused to answer the door when police arrived, police said. Police, saying they feared for Hill's safety, broke into the house and found that he had cut himself.
Hill, previously a foster parent, has been a mentor the past six years to several "at-risk" children. Police said at least one of the children Hill was accused of molesting was a child he was mentoring.
Police arrested Hill on eight charges of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor -- two counts each for alleged encounters with four boys.
All charges are fourth-degree felonies.
The encounters were alleged to have happened at Hill's home and at an apartment.
Hill was accused of having sex with two boys on "numerous occasions" between March 1, 2001, and Jan. 15 of this year. The boys, now aged 17 and 18, were as young as 15 at the time of the alleged acts.
Hill was charged with having sex with a 15-year-old boy on numerous occasions between March 15 of last year and Jan. 15 this year.
He also was accused of having sex with a 14-year-old boy numerous times between Aug. 1 of last year and Jan. 15.
Police said they believe there are more victims.
"We would ask if there are other victims that they come forward," said Cincinnati Police Capt. Vince Demasi.
Authorities asked anyone with information about the case to call Crimestoppers at (513) 352-3040.
Hill is best known for his 15 years of work as an investigative reporter for WCPO's award-winning "I-Team" from its inception in 1989, when he joined the station, through this past January, when he became a general assignment reporter.
WCPO general manager Bill Fee said the management and staff of the station "are as shocked and saddened by this story as would be any member of the public."
"We plan to closely follow this story as it develops over the next several days," he said.
"There is nothing more we can do at this point other than to say we are concerned primarily for any minors that may have been injured and that the ultimate information will make clear what has happened here."
Fee said WCPO management had "pledged to cooperate with the police in their investigation."
Hill is a native of Newark, N.J., and a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism.
Before joining WCPO, he worked as a reporter at television stations WSMV in Nashville and at WMAR in Baltimore.

They should have given him more time to slit his pervert throat.
Hill, previously a foster parent, has been a mentor the past six years to several "at-risk" children. It's all about the children. Nothing like having a homosexual mentoring young boys!
If Hill had been married to another homosexual this would never have happened. They could have adopted the youngsters and then molested them legally.
Homosexual marriages? Anyone? Adoption? Rosy?
He should have moved to San Francisco where deviant sexual behavior is the norm.
After he molests them, he'll then be able to marry them soon too....
Jail will be a lot of fun for this pervert.
That depends on his race and his public sexual orientation. If he is white, and has been known to consort with women, the story will get wide play. If he is black or openly gay, the story wil die.
