and increases to 10 percent in the marginal income tax rates for individuals and couples making over $140,000 and $280,000 a year respectively and 11 percent for individuals earning over $280,000 a year and couples with incomes exceeding $560,000.

I'd prefer an increase to 95% for movie producers having the last name of 'Speilberg'.

How did the rest of the country managed to enjoy the same economic boom without the tax increase?

The more you tax people, the more money they can spend and invest. I'd like to know how liberals explain this theory to businesspeople.

The governor keeps talking nostalgically about the wonderful days, back in 1968, when he first arrived here as an immigrant. But those wonderful days were generated by leaders - and by a people - who were optimistic about the future, welcomed it and planned for it.

What's interesting is that in those days, we were able to build schools and highways on a budget that would be about 50% lower than today's in present dollars. Now we're paying significantly more of a percentage of Gross State Product in taxes and we aren't building squat. Instead, all of our money is going to education and social services. So how come we could provide vital services AND still build our infrastructure, all on a smaller tax base, back in those days? I never hear any of the "let's raise taxes" crowd answering that question.
