I think it's time for a change at the Fed. Hopefully Bush will pick someone to replace GreenSpam whenever his term is up. Personally, I'd like to see former Senator Phil Graham.

Heck, Greenspan didn't say anything that nobody already knew.
One of the worst kept "secrets" in our entire nation is that Congress has misappropriated the money in the Social Security Trust Fund.
Nothing in it but a scandalous pile of government IOUs.
And it won't be long before Baby Boomers begin retiring and start withdrawing rather than contributing to the fund.
That's when general revenues will have to be used to start paying back those IOUs.
And Dubya's projected multi-TRILLION dollar budget deficits aren't gonna help one bit.
Yep. Greenspan is right. We're DOOMED.

and now we have ANOTHER REASON TO ELECT BUSH!
Green span is due to retire during the next term.
WE WANT BUSH TO PICK GREENSPAN'S SUCCESSOR! Look at the people he picked so far.
(S) besides I hear he is super doooper well conected with the mega big corporations. those people must know about money. (/s)

Alan Greenspan is not the bravest person in the world by far. But for him to openly state the SS will need to be reformed and/or have cuts is proof that things are far worse in this country than what most people think.
To: Paul C. Jesup
Yep, Greenspan is right. But hold the phone....wasn't he in charge of the last SSI reform project in the 80's? Wasn't this problem supposed to be fixed then?
To: Willie Green
The dirty secret is THERE IS NO TRUST FUND. The DEMOCRAT CONGRESS under FDR started using it as "general funds", and that's the way it remains today.

Unfortunately Greenspan is correct this time. Bush's tax cuts will eliminate the SS trust fund by about 2012 or so.

I do not like Greenspan-I-Am,
I do not like him to explain.
I do not like him very plain.
I do not like him on him on C-Span,
I do not like this man Greenspan.

I'm a young boomer. It's popular for the X'ers to blast the boomers because SS won't be there for them but I've known for 25 years it won't be there for me. Course I'm just a coupole of years from being an Xer myself.
