The ballot measure I am most interested in is Prop 56, which lowers the legislative majority to raise taxes from 2/3 to 55%. I am glad to see it is losing (51%-33%). The liberals have been throwing money at this for weeks with ad after ad on TV every night. Only in the last week has the NO on 56 people started running ads stating this is a trick to raise taxes.

If 57 doesn't pass, it's over. You couldn't have enough U-Hauls in California.

Knew people would be suckered by those slick, effective commercials. Damn shame.

Armageddon cuts or bust!

If 57 doesn't pass, it's over. You couldn't have enough U-Hauls in California.

If Prop 57 passes, the state issues $15 billion in bonds. Those bonds pay past debt, expenditures in this fiscal year, AND $3 billion carried over into the fiscal year ending June 1, 2005. This is a joke!

The ONLY issue should be whether we raise taxes or cut expenses. All Prop 57 does is allow the legislature to continue spending and not address that issue. In essence, we will continue to spend at higher rates than we can afford because the bond provides that revenue. The bond is paid for by taxes. Prop 57 is no better than increased taxes... in fact, it will be paid by tax revenue, just spread over the next 15. And, instead of a $15 billion price tag, we get a $23 billion price tag.

According to Arnold, we don't have a revenue problem, we have a spending problem. Yet this proposition does everything to enhance revenue and nothing to solve the the problem.

Voting NO on Proposition 57 and 58 is the only way to get the legislature to address the real problem: SPENDING!

"If 57 doesn't pass, it's over. You couldn't have enough U-Hauls in California" Would you care to elaborate? I challenge your logic! Since when does taking out a loan preferable to cutting spending. The first thing that should be done when you are in a hole is to "quit digging!" A fifteen billion dollar bond issue will cost us an additional 6 BILLION DOLLARS IN INTEREST! If the bond issue is passed then taxes and/or fees will have to be raised to pay off the bond. More taxes and fees will more likely force more businesses and the tax paying Californians to move out of state.

I'm not giving up... maybe some people feel like Lopez and will fight back with a NO vote. (I'm always hopeful)

This Bitter Pill Is Too Hard to Swallow
February 22, 2004

(snip)

Like all good Californians, I guess I'm supposed to open my mouth and take my medicine next week at the polls.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has been telling us this is the way it has to be, and U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein is one of many Democratic pushovers who agree that Proposition 57 is the way to fix what ails us.

If Californians fail to pass the $15-billion bond measure, they warn in their fear campaign, we'll face Armageddon. All the Prop. 57 cheerleaders love using that word.

Well guess what.

I don't want to take my medicine. And I particularly don't appreciate having someone try to ram it down my throat.

Reasonable people can certainly conclude that Prop. 57 is an acceptable way to begin digging out of our horrible mess. But I'm tired of being told it's the only way, particularly by a flip-flop governor who campaigned as a committed critic of borrowing.

May I suggest the mid-west or east. You'll love it this time of year.

Oh, and your way wrong. It's no on 57 and 58.

Sheesh, how many times can the politicos bull sh*t the people?
