THE TIMES POLL

Kerry Leads Edwards Handily in California

Margin is 32 percentage points a week before the vote. Governor's budget measures also win favor.

[snip]

The survey, supervised by Times polling director Susan Pinkus, interviewed 1,521 registered California voters from Feb. 18 to 22, including 1,005 likely to vote in next Tuesday's election. Among them were 560 deemed likely to vote in the Democratic primary, which is open to independents. The margin of sampling error for registered voters and all likely voters is plus or minus 3 percentage points. For likely Democratic primary voters, it is 4 points.

[snip]

Kerry, the poll found, would beat Bush in a romp, 53% to 40% if the election were held today, and Edwards would defeat the president, 49% to 42%.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante has a significant lead over actor Arnold Schwarzenegger in the race to succeed Gov. Gray Davis, according to new poll data released Saturday night. A poll of 801 likely voters by the Los Angeles Times found 35 percent backing Bustamante, a Democrat, followed by 22 percent in support of Schwarzenegger, a Republican.

The results followed Times poll data released Friday showing 50 percent support the effort to oust Davis, and 45 percent oppose it.

It's a good thing the LA Slimes waited to the end to smear Ahnold. It registered in the minds of the voters and the LA Slimes murdered Bustamantes political aspirations of becoming Governor of California.

Bush wasted whatever opportunity he had to take CA from the Dems on his ill-advised Illegal Alien Amnesty.

With two pro-Amnesty candidates, an issue that could have cut for Republicans is now a wash.

Once again, the Bush Administration is clueless in California.

The Public Policy Institute, which nailed the recall, has Bush down by only 4 in California.

California voted for Ahnold, even though he is also pro-illegal.

Ahnold may be pro-illegal, but he sold himself to the public on the impression of the converse.

Yes, Ambrose, let's not bother with the election in November. Let's concede CA to the democrat candidate who will campaign on FULL amnesty, versus Bush's "proposal."

CA went heavy for Arnold and I think POTUS has a good chance of carrying CA if the democrat nominee is Kerry of Massachusetts.

CA was in a hurry when Arnold fooled them.

Bush won't have that luxury, and he's not fooling anyone any longer.

I thought it was by 17% -- 54%-37% in favor of the Democratic nominee.

Considering that the CA primary is now a week away, I'm guessing Kerry's ads have been running since February 17.

Arnold didn't "fool" anyone. He was upfront about his pro-illegal views. He posted them right on his website! There was no bait and switch involved. Many conservatives voted for Arnold anyway, because they were afraid Bustamecha would be elected if they didn't.

As for the president, it remains to be see whether he's going to actually fight for his proposal, or if he just dropped it into Congress' lap and that's the end of that.

Direct your activism towards the Congresscritters to kill this amnesty monstrosity.

Bush wasted whatever opportunity he had to take CA from Dems on his ill-advised Illegal Alien Amnesty.

The poll internals bear you out Sabertooth:

Illegal immigration: ...three out five registered voters oppose Bush administration [Amnesty]plans...(this includes 42% who are strongly opposed).... There is a very hard line in California about this issue. ...of Latino registered voters...40% are opposed. More than three out of five white voters are opposed... Registered Democrats...oppose the immigration plan 48% to 41%...independents 49% to 38%... Republican voters are vociferously opposed to it (70%).

Bush saw his approval ratings plummet just about the very hour he advanced his Amnesty scheme. He just might be getting the message: in today's stump stemwinder there was nary a peep about immigration or Amnesty.

No Saber, you're the one who is clueless about "amnesty" First of all it isn't amnesty because you color it that way. It is only a plan to record immigrant temporary workers and a way to force business owners who hire illegals to be accountable.

Second, in California, Tom Ridge tried to get a fence built to seal off a critical area the Illegals were using and the California EviroMENTALists blocked it because it may effect the wildlife in the area.

So, either join our effort and stop campaigning against President Bush or expect President Kerry to open the borders for our UN forces to help feed the mass migration and set up refugee camps. (Besides that, your "amnesty" rant is getting old and boring and few of us care what you have to say about the same old $h!t.)

It probably has do more with the Democratic primary heating up with the constant attacks on the president and the dissapointing job numbers in the December, 2003, Unemployment Report.
