You got that right!! It makes me nauseated to hear that kind of speech coming from a Republican...but I am getting used to it. WHEN IS HE GOING TO LEARN THAT NOT STANDING FOR ANYTHING IS WORSE THAN STANDING FOR THE WRONG THING!! If the man would just get over being intimidated and afraid someone will find fault with him, and be strong, he would fare a lot better in the polls. Nope, I'm not a Bushbot, the guy's disappointed me plenty. I really flipped out over that amnesty plan, but I just hang on to hope it will get bottled up in Congress no matter what Bush does. He's done a few other bonehead things, too.

But his handling of this so far is not bonehead. He knows that the media is waiting for him to go fundamental on the gays, and the Woodward-and-Bernstein wannabes over at CNN only have thirty year Air National Guard records to chew on, nothing that makes Bush look like the bad guy that Clinton looked like at his worst. Bush needs to play this smart, he needs to make this look like Kerry's issue, not his. So far, he's doing that.

I figure this...........they get married after they pay their money to the city clerk. Judges declare later that marrige is moot. Homos then file suit against the city for fraud and the oldie but goodie ..."emotional distress". And then the taxpayers have to bail this turdburgler of a mayor and his city goobermint bean counters out with our dollars ! Doom on this POS and all polidiots that allow it to happen !

Like you 8-) Seriously, I find his "troubling" comment troubling because this is about all that we're getting from Republicans everywhere. No one seems willing to actually do anything or say anything critical of homosexual behavior itself. The best we get is some milquetoast endorsement of traditional marriage. If the Republicans aren't going to engage the homosexual crowd's "equal protection" argument straight up then the battle will have been over before it's begun.

THANK YOU! Perfect observation. If one wants to hear mealy mouth "feel good" statements then vote for Bubba. We expect and demand better from Bush particuarly when its an important issue as this one.

I think I have seen 70% among Americans in support of a constitutional ammendment defining marriage.

Brit Hume was talking about the polls this afternoon on his show. The 70% figure is the number of Americans who oppose "gay" marriage. The number for/against a constitutional amendment is split about 50/50. Americans don't want this new definition of marriage; but, they seem hesitant to amend the Constitution to do it.

I liked the meat of what President Bush had to say, rather than the code word the reporter played on:

"I have watched carefully what's happening in San Francisco, where licenses were being issued, even though the law states otherwise," Bush said.

Linda Chavez stated the situation succinctly: "But voters in California rejected gay marriage by nearly a two-to-one margin just four years ago, when 61 percent voted in favor of Proposition 22, a ballot initiative that said: "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California." If a handful of city officials can circumvent the will of the people -- as expressed in a state law passed by the majority of California voters -- can anarchy be far behind?"

The Governor of the state of California is the chief law enforcement officer of that state.

The Governor shall see that the law is faithfully executed. ___________________________________________________________

I believe the President understands this and is in communication with the governor of California.

Governor Schwarzenegger rightly turned to the Attorney General to enforce the law. "Our civilized society and legal system is based upon a respect for and adherence to the rule of law. The City and County of San Francisco's unfortunate choice to disregard state law and grant marriage certificates to gay couples directly undermines this fundamental guarantee," Schwarzenegger wrote. "As Attorney General, you have the authority to take legal action to require the City and County of San Francisco to comply with the laws of the State."

The Attorney General has wantonly refused.

It is now time for the Governor to enforce the laws of his state.
