What do you think of the concept of requiring parole board members be the ones who inform the next of kin of new victims?
To: SunnyUsa
I think we are the only TWO people on the forum who heard this reported on Imus this morning.
So the family KNEW Joseph. Did Carlie ever meet him? Did he ambush her full well knowing that without her families permission she decided to walk home? Did he tell her she was SUPPOSED to go with him..that he was sent to drive her the rest of the way?
It's just too coincidental Joseph happens to be exactly on the same path at the same time that Carlie said she was using to walk home..Uncanny.

Sammy the Bull was John Gotti's hitman who turned State's evidence. He was busted dealing drugs while in the witness protection program, and I believe, is still serving part of a 15 year sentence.
Someone correct me if I am mistaken.

Confirmed that Carlie's computer was confiscated by LEO. Sounds like that's just SOP -- trying to see whether she had been on-line with people.
What a horrible case.... I can't imagine having to be a LEO involved with this sort of stuff. God give peace and strength to the investigators.

23 years in NYS prison system, eh? I'm a bit curious, what part of the prison system did you work in? Clerical? Guard duty?
In your opinion, how many people are locked up just for "drug offenses" in NY? I mean stricty drug offenses and nothing violent or fraudulent.
I'd be happy to discuss this with you in private or off-thread. I am genuinely curious about this topic and your thoughts.

The state is covered under several feet of snow..no chance to any search...also, the likelihood of any remains ever being found is probably zilch..carnivores smell carrion, will dig up the body....probably in a few years, someone will trip over a bone fragment, assuming they'll recognize it at such..and a DNA match will confirm it as Dru..sad, but true..nature is a very efficient recycler..

I get the impression that he was never even tried for the charge. From DallasNews.com - News this Hour, he was tried.
Smith has been arrested at least 13 times in Florida since 1993, according to state records. He was arrested in 1997 in Manatee County on kidnapping and false imprisonment charges, but was acquitted a year later. Records also show other arrests ranging from misdemeanor battery to felony drug possession.

There are specific criteria for issuign an Amber Alert, and as soon as those were met in this case, the alert was issued. If Amber Alerts are immediately issued every time a kid goes missing for a few hours, there will be hundreds every day, and people will start tuning them out. In the big picture, sticking with the criteria will almost certainly save more lives.

Teach children not to comply no matter what. Tell them to scream, kick bite, squirm free - anything. Once they comply and get in that car, the chance of not being killed is astronomically slim. Stress never - ever comply no matter what. I could not have said it better. The BEST chance of get away safely is responding (the way you said) the moment she felt threaten.

If true, this perp (and all child killers) should be subject to Taliban-style torture before his execution. No. I approve of drugs or torture if necessary only to extract the information to save another life.
He deserves a fair trial and a fast hanging after which G-d must judge him.

Here's a comment of mine from a different post.
I've taught my kids, my Cub Scouts and even my Sunday School class that if anyone...ANYONE tries to take you somewhere against your will, or pick you up, everything we've ever taught you about fighting fair goes out the door! Yell, kick, punch, scream, gouge out eyes, kick in the nuts, stomp on feet, scream, scrape, scratch and whatever else you need to do. If, by some reason it was a mistake, I'm sure the adult would be made to understand.
One of my Sunday School kids said "but doesn't the Bible tell us not to kill?" I responde dthat there is a difference between killing or hurting someone to save your life and murder. He's a smart kid, but I could easily see him complying to an adult stranger. I may have to have a little talk with his parents.

There WAS something a bit off kilter about the stepfather when he talked on camera yesterday about being too late too pick the girl up.
As far as him breaking down last night, I suppose it could be because he feels so guilty about being too late. First I think there is a mix up of "stepfathers" here....the stepfather I'm referring to is the girlfriend's stepfather (that she spent the night with) I heard on Imus's show this morn that THAT stepfather knows Joseph Smith. Which I thought was a disturbing "coincidence". The "stepfather" of Carlie struck me as odd only that he never seemed that emotional in any appearance I saw him in, but I didn't know then he was the "stepfather", I thought he was her real father. Which maybe explains it.
The whole story seems a bit off to me....it seems many adults failed this kid.

Oh come on... you could be a little bit more positive couldn't you.
To: mass55th
Have you been following the story of the guy just arrested in NYC for several rapes...he's been picked up, what is it.50+ times in the last decade....only done minimal time...the system doesn't do its job.....FYI..fro info, check out the NYPOst's website for this week for the stories..

Hmmm..weird! If they have him, where's the child? Don't you think they would've reported the child has been found? Don't like this at all...:(
Lifting up prayers for the family and the little girl!

Maybe Joseph is protecting Carlie from her Step Dad whom may be sexually molesting her. (Wishful thinking)
