February 4, 2004 -- DEMOCRATIC National Chairman Terry McAuliffe was so giddy as he blasted President Bush's military record during an appearance on ABC's "This Week" last Sunday that it looked like he might have to be physically restrained. "I look forward to that debate when John Kerry, a war hero with a chest full of medals, is standing next to George Bush, a man who was AWOL in the Alabama National Guard," he declared.

That, of course, would put Kerry's vocal emergence as a national anti-war figure - including his testimony before Congress that he'd seen "[war] crimes committed on a day-to-day basis, with the full awareness of officers at all levels of command" - in a much different light, coming after he'd started his electoral career, not before.

Someone (Howard Dean?) should demand that Kerry name of the alleged war criminals, and then demand to know why he never reported the war crimes to the proper authorities.

If they want "heroism" try this. You have a president that is the number one target of millions of Islamic fundamentalists. You have a president that sends his VP to a "secure location" and strides out in the middle of a Yankee Stadium capacity crowd to throw the first pitch against the wishes of his entire security detail. You have a president that flies into a hot war zone to have Thanksgiving dinner with the men and women he has sent to fight for the United States. This president has more people plotting his death than any other leader in modern history and yet he goes to the office everyday and continues to stand up for this country knowing full well no amount of security can guarantee he will live long enough to finish the job he has been elected to do.

Time to bring out Tom Selic and the "I am the national guard" advertisments. Its a PSA and thus not subject to the silence free speech law. Its educational. ;-)

Indeed, none of the pack of White House hopefuls (save Joe Lieberman) seems to have paid much attention to the fact that their Iraq rhetoric is completely out of sync with that of Bill Clinton, the notorious draft dodger.

The libs don't care about truth or logic; they just hate W!

If Kerry's going to completely run on his record in the military, it's time to look at the nature of his purple hearts and his acts of heroism. I'd like to see a detailed account from an unbiased source.

Look at the other JFK for your answer. Kerry set up his entire military career to mirror JFK. Instead of a PT boat he commanded a River boat. Kerry won his silver star by finishing off a guy that had already been downed by 50 cal rounds. It was a turkey shoot.
