Al-Qaeda Ideologist Warns of "Unimaginable" Attack
Emergency Net ^ | Jan. 25, 2004 | ENN

MIDDLE EAST: Louis Attyiat-Allah, an self-proclaimed Al-Qaeda ideologist, has warned that a massive Al-Qaeda attack was pending and criticized Middle East television channel Al-Jazeera for not airing all of a recent speech by Usama bin Laden.

In the recent issue of the Al-Qaeda biweekly magazine "Sawt al-Jihad", Attyiat-Allah said a possible future attack on the same scale as 9-11 was coming. He described it as innovative and would come at a time completely unexpected.

Attyiat-Allah said western analysts would be unable to predict when the attack could occur, because it would be "unimaginable in the normal way."

"It will be bigger, in the sense that the loss from which America and the Western World will suffer, because it will be very big and immeasurable...due to its greatness, it will change the global power balance," he said.

Despite making these warnings, Attyiat-Allah did not say what his sources were. The comments have not been authenticated by U.S. or allied intelligence sources, though more than one analyst told EmergencyNet News that "the threat seems to be in keeping with previous Al-Qaeda doctrine." Many U.S. government intelligence analysts believe that "Sawt al-Jihad" and other alleged Al-Qaeda associated websites and mailing lists largely consist of "misdirection and misinformation."

Also in the magazine article, Attyiat-Allah said he was upset that television station Al-Jazeera did not air a recent interview by Usama bin Laden in its entirety.

“I felt angry at al-Jazeera channel for cutting the speech from over 40 minutes to 14 minutes only, because it is very clear that this is one of the most important speeches of the Sheikh," Attyiat-Allah complained.

"It is clear that this is a detailed, political speech, and that the Sheikh read it from a paper which was prepared beforehand... in my personal opinion, this speech, in its essence, is a speech [about the] future," he added.

When I was searching to see if this has been posted, I came across this article from Aug. 23:

Al Qaeda Plans Underwater Attack

According to the U.S. agency charged with protecting America, Al Quaeda terrorists may be planning an attack from under water.

The Department of Homeland Security has issued a bulletin warning that terrorists may attack American ships or ports using scuba divers.

The "Swimmer Attack Indicators and Protective Measures" bulletin was issued on August 22, 2003. The bulletin advised "the maritime industry and owners and operators of maritime facilities of a number of incidents of suspicious activity and possible surveillance of maritime facilities around the U.S. over the past few months."

====

I think an attack from the sea and underwater attack would be consistent with their claim of "unimaginable in any normal way". Maybe they plan to detonate a nuke underwater near a harbor.

I think it's about time some JDAMs dropped in for a visit to Al Jazeera.

"Attyiat-Allah said western analysts would be unable to predict when the attack could occur"

Don't know when it's going to be? Just ask Bush, he knows everything ahead of time and has the power to prevent it.

Yeah, yeah, these guys have been saying this for over 2 years.

Not that we should let our guard down at all, but I think this is the dying utterances of Al-Qaeda.

Actually, I think Al Jazeera doesn't want any JDAMs dropped on them, that's why they only aired 14 out of the 40 minute Bin Laden tape. The tape may have had some info for the terrorists, giving them the go ahead and location maybe, so by not airing it, they may have confused them.

I think we "accidentally" did bomb Al Jazeera out of existence in Afghanistan.

I agree. AQ is "toast", but they can still be dangerous.

I read recently that we captured or killed 70% of them, and the rest are on the run.

But if they have WMD, a dozen or so of them could set it off, so they are still dangerous. I think we did prevent some major attacks over the holidays.

Remember the NEST (Nuclear Emergency Search Teams) was dispatched into several major US cities during that time. They don't send those out, unless there is some credible info about nuclear weapons, whether full nukes or "dirty bomb".

Scuba divers. LOL. They would all get the bends. It would require a lot of time underwater to sabotage a harbor or a vessel.

Underwater? We can certainly imagine targetting ships...they've done that before. Maybe they're going to try to create a tidal wave.

Maybe they plan to put a nuke on a ship and ruin a major port? That could temporarily cripple an economy

Apparently we have been aware of that threat for a while.

Just found this earlier article:

Terrorists May Use Scuba Divers, Planes
http://abcnews.go.com/sections/us/DailyNews/homefront0020524.html

W A S H I N G T O N, May 24, 2003 — Terrorists may use scuba divers or small planes to attack targets in the United States, the FBI said today in the latest in a series of unconfirmed warnings.

"Recent information has determined that various terrorist elements have sought to develop an offensive scuba diver capability," the FBI said in an information bulletin issued by its National Infrastructure Protection Center.

And more -- from 2002! I think the previous post of May is actualy from 2002, not from 2003.

FBI Probes Dive Shops for Terrorists
NewsMax.com Wires
Wednesday, June 5, 2002
http://www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2002/6/4/153028.shtml

MIAMI – Federal agents have been visiting and calling dive shops in the Florida Keys asking them to report anybody who might be trying to learn how to scuba dive to carry out a terrorist attack, the FBI said Tuesday.
"It's mostly to educate and inform the dive shops," FBI spokeswoman Judy Orihuela said. "They're told to call the FBI about anything that's suspicious."

===

And we have to remember that AQ terrorists were running around trying to learn to fly a couple years before 9-11. So for the past couple of years they have been learning to dive...
