Mass. Official Spent $17,000 for a TV
BOSTON - Massachusetts' former public safety secretary spent $17,000 in state anti-terrorism funds on a 60-inch plasma screen television for his office, although the set has no special capabilities.
In June 2002, James P. Jajuga tapped into a special account set up after the Sept. 11 attacks to buy the television, the Boston Herald reported Tuesday, citing state records.
Jajuga, the focus of a federal investigation into possible misuse of grant money, did not immediately return a call for comment.
He is a former state trooper and Democratic state senator appointed public safety chief by acting Gov. Jane M. Swift. He lost his job with the election of a new governor.
Gov. Mitt Romney said he was "dismayed" by the report and instructed current Public Safety Secretary Edward Flynn to sell the television.

$17000 for a plasma? I heard those TV's will burn an image on the screen after a while, pretty much distroying the otherwise cool display.

Yeah, I've heard of that burn-in problem too. I think they also have a shortened lifespan compared to standard TV's. LCD's will probably make them an obsolete technology in 10 years.

Ahh, damn, this is just stupid. Ok, the guy who blew the money got caught, but to sell the TV now? What, the taxpayers didn't take it in the shorts the first time, now they gotta take it on the reduction in value because it's used?
Tell the Attorney General to sue the guy for the cost of his TV, ship it to him, and bill the guy for storage fees.

$17,000 with no special capabilities? Just DAMN! I'll keep my 8 year old 31" that set me back $1700 back then. Still works great.

I heard those TV's will burn an image on the screen after a while, pretty much distroying the otherwise cool display. Every CRT TV sold since the beginning of the TV age has the problem as well (if not worse).
Getting rid of TV station logos at the bottom of the screen would solve most of the problem.
