Howard Dean and Yasser Arafat: Is there a "kaffiyeh connection"? (PICTURE INSIDE)
Posted on 01/20/2004 2:17:18 AM PST by PureSolace
I want information about this photo. If I were to guess, he was given the kaffiyeh as a gift and dean has no idea of it's possible symbolism. anyone got the true story? Or at least a funny anecdote?

Wow...I haven't seen this before. The kaffiyeh's (so that's what they're called) appear to be identical. Good catch, and there has to be a connection. How many American politicians campaign with Arab looking scarves around their necks.
I would sure like to know more about where he got it.

Dean also refers to Hamas terrorists as "soldiers." This plus that terrorist insignia around his neck is all anybody really needs to know about him.

I just speculated, on another thread, that some woman in the crowd draped her scarf around Dean's shoulders as a tribute, and he was too deep into his manic phase to notice or care how bad it was going to look on film or in print.
I am sure the owner of the khaffiyeh was one of his earnest supporters. These things are almost a must-wear at antiwar marches. I've seen them so many times since Sept 2001 that that I'm sick of them.

I could be wrong, but their patterns seem to be like tartans; each group having its own unique design. Dean is wearing a pattern I've only seen on Palestinian Arabs. Specifically, I've only seen it on Palestinians who support the PLO.

For those interested...

There's the caption... :) Let's see if there's any fallout tomorrow?

No, that's from last night, after his U.S. Geography lesson.
I honestly can't see him deliberately putting this thing on, of his own volition, as a statement. Dude must have been flyin'.

Some politicians are just disgusting...they will do, say or wear anything if they think it will gain them votes...Dean is doing just that IMHO.
Funny how the press missed this one but made much of his wearing a sweater.........
