These people are the remnants of the red-headed mummies found in the Tarim Basin of China.
The Curse Of The Red-Headed Mummy
There are many poems lamenting the green eyes of the Han Emperors. There is also frequent mention of the red-headed 'magic men' of the Han emperors.

lamenting the green eyes of the Han Emperors My eyes are green. Nothing in the family mythology about China, though.

Notice on the map how far south Chongqing is in relation to Urumchi (to the north, Turpan Perch) where the Caucasian mummies were found. There were/are no Chinese skeletons or mummies in the whole region until beginning around 100BC.

I am fascinated by the recent spate of article mentioning ancient red-headed groups of people. My dad was a red-head, as were two of his sisters.

I wonder if there is any link with the Ainu people of northern Japan, or even the skeleton of the caucasian man unearthed in the 1990's in the Pacific Northwest that seemed to pre-date the local Indians (and immediately put under federal control so no scientific research could be conducted that might upset Indian activists and the PC-apple cart)?

stories like this one and the "blondes of Nuristan" seem to indicate that fair caucasians were once much more widespread across Asia. Now it looks like they won't even hang on to their narrow fringe of western europe...
