Speechwriters write speeches for political leaders. Everyone does that. People generally know that. But what if there is a president who took credit as if he had written the speech himself? Who do you suppose would do that? Duh, how many guesses do you need?
My source is not 100% certain of the year, but he believes it was 1998.
On a Saturday, Dick Morris was smuggled into the White House. He went through the kitchen and into the oval office.
Because he was worried about a computer hard drive, Morris used either an IBM Selectric or Smith Corona electric typewriter to write the State of the Union Address.
As he would write, Bill Clinton would copy the words onto a yellow legal pad and then claim to people that he wrote it himself.
This may not be a staggering revelation, but it is so typical of the liars who occupied our White House for eight years.

You're going to have to give some kind of source for your info if you want any credibility. Sounds plausable, though.

Seems reasonable to me that the snake would take credit for someone elses work.
And lay blame when he didn't want to take it.

I've been here over 6 1/2 years. I'll let fellow FReepers determine my credibility, Newbie. But thanks for the input.

I said that in the article. Everyone knows speechwriters write speeches for presidents. Clinton went out of his way to sneak in Morris to write the speech and then claim that he did it because it was on his very own yellow pad. It speaks volumes of who scumbag is.

Of course all presidents have speech writers, that's not the point. The point is that Clinton said that he didn't use a speech writer.

Oops, you're right. That's what I get for quickly scanning as many articles on FR as I can while I'm at work and not get caught.

I would like to ask Dick Morris who he thinks ratted him out to reporters when he was found in the hotel with the prostitute? He seems to have a real vendetta against Slick Willy and his boss Miss Hillary.
To: Gracey
I don't know about that, but I try really hard to get it right.

Bill Clinton would copy the words onto a yellow legal pad and then claim to people that he wrote it himself.I'm not surprised in the least, though deeply gratified if it gets proven. He always bragged that he wrote his own speeches (while adopting that fake humble persona all the while crowing in that sickening fashion) and the idiotic craven press would rhapsodize over this wonderful genius they fancied occupied the office.
I swear I will never forgive some of those press types who enabled him to ascend to the highest office in the land.

I think most Presidents have a speech writer. We all know that, but clinton let it be known that HE wrote his own speeches, though honestly who really believed it? Then on top of that we had to listen to his handservants in the media inform us about how truly great this cretin was as they made doe eyes over him.
Sickening.
I'll go a step farther. I'll bet anything that President Bush writes more of his speeches--and they are truly memorable and historic--than clinton would ever dream of. Yet one crowed his lies and the other simply delivers his message.

This seems relatively minor to the other things Clinton has done while in the White House.

I agree. It is not like rape, perjury, and selling technology to the ChiComs. But I just learned about this today and want to continue doing whatever I can to further erode his phony legacy.
