"It's not *automatic* amnesty, but incremental amnesty. This is exactly what this is, slow motion amnesty. They both stated this is going to be a nightmare on top of the existing disaster. This is nothing but amnesty and will cost us all billions more in taxes. This is going to cost the country billions, more overcrowded schools, jails, freeways, more programs, jammed hospitals, etc etc."

It's not "amnesty." It's a plea bargain. 8 million illegals have to plead guilty, pay a fine, register with our government, hold a job non-stop, pay taxes, and avoid committing felonies in order to remain here for the next 3 years.

At the end of those 3 years, they have to return to their home countries, and since they have Registered, we'll finally be able to compell them to do so.

The whole trick is getting them to first Register and then later deport themselves.

No wonder La Raza is upset; they've been out-Foxed.

And who's going to have the guts to enforce this? If an illegal gets busted for a felony, and shipped back to Mexico, all he's got to do is swim back, and just lay a little lower than he does now. Maybe not get s***faced drunk and blow his horn all Saturday night.

It's like watching an ineffectual parent trying to deal with a spoiled child!

"...Today, President Bush proposed a new temporary worker program to match willing foreign workers with willing U.S. employers when no Americans can be found to fill the jobs. The program would be open to new foreign workers, and to the undocumented men and women currently employed in the U.S...."

Wholesale attack with sleeper terms by the cheap labor lobby. They wrote it, you know.

Not people contriving a clever ruse to get people out in the future.

Anyway, any hope of deporting illegals three years from now...you think it would really stand?

OR you can simply fine all the businesses $100k per infraction and threaten jail-time to those who don't comply. Then we can offer an Amnesty period to businesses if they give up their illegals or face the fines/jail-time. Just like ANY OTHER LAW, a fine or jail-time or BOTH.

Before you know it all the illegals will be headed for the border. Once that program is underway they can accelerate the acceptance of existing LEGAL immigrants to fill the void left by the ILLEGALS. All the while we should improve security on the border to prevent any dangerous OTM's from crossing.

. . . we'll finally be able to compell them to do so

LOL! You're funny.

They'll do one of three things: 1) not register to begin with, and stay underground, 2) register but simply go underground when three years are up, or 3) return to Mexico after three years, sneak back in and stay underground.

We may be able to, but we won't. You know it, I know it. And who's to stop them from coming back again?

I'm agreeing with your points more and more. I wonder if this is a prelude to a real crackdown on illegals. I.e., "I gave you this nice guest-worker program, take it or get out."

I can't help viewing all of Bush's moves through the lens of national security. If this were just about buying votes, it really doesn't make sense if you go state-by-state: Texas is Bush Country and if California is in play, Bush has already won.

You forgot to use the magic words. It doesn't work without the magic words.

I know you better than that Southhack. You can't believe this. It's not going to happen.

"No wonder La Raza is upset; they've been out-Foxed."

La Raza is upset because, as their spokeswoman said last night, the Bush proposal "doesn't do enough for latinos." In other words, La Raza thinks it's just fine for non-latino illegals, but latino illegals "deserve" much more.
