BAQUBA, Iraq (Reuters) - U.S. forces arrested a former top officer in Saddam Hussein's once-feared security services suspected of directing anti-American attacks north of Baghdad, U.S. officers said on Monday. The man, a major-general in the former intelligence department, was detained during overnight searches in the town of Baquba, 40 miles north of the capital, they said.
Dozens of people were arrested in similar raids on towns in mainly Sunni Muslim central Iraq, the scene of the fiercest armed resistance to U.S. occupation and where Saddam still enjoys wide support.
Hundreds of Iraqis suspected of ties to the insurgents have been arrested in a crackdown launched after the arrest of Saddam on December 13. U.S. officials say intelligence gleaned from Saddam was a factor in the arrests.

A major-general of Iraqi sercurity forces - we're realling rolling it up out there, post Saddam. But Saddam didn't matter, and wasn't leading the insurgency.< /sarcasm>

security, really rolling
And it's time to go make coffee - bad typing/proofing, but I wanted to get this one up. Got this from another forum I visit, which every now and then manages to scoop FR.

Excellent news! In my heightened sense of alert, I had to check into FR. Sounds like we are REALLY rolling along in getting those creeps. Thanks for the scoop!
Bad news...I'm awake because my son is coming down with the flu...if you know what I mean. Bedding is now in the wash. Poor little guy.

Thanks for pinging FL_engineer, I couldn't remember who was doing the deck updates.
Per FL_engineer's home page, the latest card deck update is here:
http://freerepublic.com/focus/news/1040052/posts?page=1270#1270 It doesn't look like anyone by this description is still left (it's getting pretty thin, A Good Thing). However, it would seem likely this guy would be a direct report to Hani Abd Latif Tilfa al-Tikriti, the King of Hearts, who is SSO Director (Special Security Organization).

I hear Bush has bin Laden and he's waiting for the right time to stage his capture. I hear bin Laden's already in New York and Bush plans to lead him onstage for his acceptance speech during the Republican Convention.
One scenario being considered has Bush as his true self regaled in cowboy attire riding onstage astride a white [subliminal message intended] stallion holding one end of a rope whose other end is around bin laden's neck.
A second scenario has Bush landing an F-16 on stage at Madison Square Garden and when he pops the landing chute bin Laden is ejected. Engineers and architects are currently studying the feasibility of installing a retractable roof on the Garden in time for the Convention.

I just read on DUMBKA that this general was ACTUALLY captured by Maori Tribesmen months ago and left for the US to "capture."
