Over 50 bags of hashish litter the deck of the dhow intercepted in the Arabian Gulf. A U.S. Navy boarding team operating from the guided missile destroyer USS Decatur (DDG 73) discovered an estimated two tons of narcotics with a street value of around eight to ten million dollars aboard a 40-foot dhow intercepted in the Arabian Gulf. The dhow's 12 crewmembers were taken into custody and transferred to USS Decatur, and Decatur sailors are in control of the dhow. DoD photo by Petty Officer 2nd Class Michael Sandberg, U.S. Navy. Get rid of the "war on drugs", and a boat big enough to carry ten million dollars worth of the stuff would be the size of a medium-sized tanker. The navy's job would have to be easier.

Get rid of the 'war on drugs' and they'd give it an escort to your local schools

Medicinal Hash

Transporting his medicinal hash by dhow, Dr Dean longed for the day when he would do so on the presidential yacht.

Not really. There wouldn't be any money in it; the school kids would have to go get it if they wanted it. The five and dime store doesn't make deliveries.

You came to FreeRepublic yesterday in order to post your support for the legalization of drug sales to children? I am afraid that the Greens and DU are elsewhere.

Just like there ain't no money in other legal products like Pepsi? cars? batteries? computer software? There are a lot of wealthy corporations making money on that worthless stuff.

Let's see how many people know what the hashish resin (also referred to as oil) is added to in order to give it form and bulk.

While Aruanan is going somewhere with this comment, I don't know exactly where.

Fascinating. Please expand upon this. I always thought that hash was simply marijuana that had excess plant material removed, leaving mostly oil.

You're as close as it gets.
Marijuana is cleaned, (stems and seeds)cut and sifted to fine powder and pressed into solid blocks.
This is typical "hash" in the US.

Further processing (usually boiling in alcohol) will result in an alcohol-resin mix referred to as Hash Oil.
The Oil can be rendered down to practically pure resin, and given time, will harden into small amber-like sticky chunks.

I do not know of anyone that would ADD something to the Oil or resin to "give it form and bulk".
It already HAD "form and bulk" in the form of Hash.

As the article is talking of "Eastern" hash, we may be speaking of hash that has had opium, morphine or heroin added to it. (first two known as opium hash or Morphine Green. There's a name for the heroin hash too, but I don't remember it. )
* note * Opium is the base narcotic for Morphine and Heroin, respectively, each a refined product of the former.

I don't support selling drugs to children. Another poster made an ignorant statement and I corrected him.

There are several kinds of ideal solutions to the drug problem around. You could legalize marijuana and anything else no worse than alcohol and keep the rest of it illegal, or you could set up government shoot-up sites for people addicted to the hard stuff. The idea is to take all the money out of it for criminals.

But you'd be better off to simply legalize it all than to do what we're doing now. A hundred years ago there was no "war on drugs" and there were no drug problems worth worrying about. Doesn't the reason for that seem obvious?

One thing I do know: the words "Hashish" and "Assassin" have the same root.

Right. I have nothing to look it up right now so there might be some errors.

Anyway, the names originated from a guy call al-Hasan ibn-al-Sabbahed. He built up a terror network of assassins who would kill anyone, anywhere and were not afraid to sacrifice their own lives. He used them to blackmail many countries, that is their leaders.

He brain washed his recruits by giving them drugs to show 'em paradise.

The newbie recruit was told that by giving his live he would enter paradise. After that he was given a drug (maybe hashish, probably something stronger) transported into a beautiful garden with lot of good tasting food, alcohol and of course pretty girls.

When he started to get tired again, he was given another drug and transported back to his rooms.

Anyway, that's how the story goes.

There is a lot of stuff written about this guy and his organization. Supposedly he was also a member of the Illuminati.

Try to google it, it's a very fascinating subject.

You'll both probably find this goes into a bit more detail on various preparations throughout the world and the techniques involved:

if the drug problem was not worth worrying about they wouldn't have banned them.

In the case of marijuana at least, they banned it because they were worried about profits. Hemp is by far the cheapest and most efficient thing in the world to make paper out of and Weyerhauser and Dupont basically got it banned for that reason.

The ismailians made a fatal mistake around 1250 or thereabouts and threatened to assasinate Mangu Khan. The Mongol horde came down on them like a load of bricks; that's the one truly good deed which the Mongols ever did for humanity.

Found something. It's a bit of topic, but since it is fascinating and someone asked for it, I'm going to spam this thread a bit.

After describing in glowing terms the magnificent garden surrounding the elegant pavilions and palaces built by the grand master at Alamut, Polo proceeds: "Now no man was allowed to enter the Garden save those whom he intended to be his ASHISHIN. There was a fortress at the entrance to the Garden, strong enough to resist all the world, and there was no other way to get in. He kept at his Court a number of the youths of the country, from twelve to twenty years of age, such as had a taste for soldiering... Then he would introduce them into his Garden, some four, or six, or ten at a time, having first made them drink a certain potion which cast them into a deep sleep, and then causing them to be lifted and carried in. So when they awoke they found themselves in the Garden.

"When therefore they awoke, and found themselves in a place so charming, they deemed that it was Paradise in very truth. And the ladies and damsels dallied with them to their hearts' content...

"So when the Old Man would have any prince slain, he would say to such a youth: 'Go thou and slay So and So; and when thou returnest my Angels shall bear thee into Paradise. And shouldst thou die, natheless even so will I send my Angels to carry thee back into Paradise.'"

(from The Book of Ser Marco Polo, the Venetian, translated by Henry Yule, London, 1875.)

Isn't Nrom Conan's god's name in Conan the Barbarian where he says, "I worship Nrom." (Probably Arnold's longest line in most of his early movies.)
