I don't know much about this subject, but isn't torture ineffective for getting information? The subject simply tells you whatever you want to hear to get the pain to stop.

I would not support it because not only is it wrong, but it is ineffective. I didn't hear this show, so I can't comment in an informed manner, but if this is what they said they are sounding singularly ignorant.

It is perfectly effective if done properly. I have VN vets, (Vietnamese people, that is, not U.S. vets) who have first hand experience. Torture and intimidation are very effective in eliciting info from recalcitrant folks.

It doesn't sound like torture will be necessary in this case (although I fully support doing it if nothing else works). Saddam was all too willing to negotiate from the minute he was dragged out of his hole, after pleading with us not to shoot him. My bet is he's a bit soft after all those years of palace living, and will give up the goods after a minimal amount of prodding, appealing to his monstrous ego, or threats.

I'm sure such techniques have been perfected over the years - probably by the likes of Saddam - those concerns of yours have likely been addressed.

I'm not a fan of barbarism, but the thought of Hussein on the other side of the dentist's chair won't make me lose any snooze time tonight.

Think that is wrong. You do not need to become what you are trying to get rid of. If this was the way were should act we would have hung the German POW on meat hooks. Try not to become what you your self say is evil. Let the people of Iraq do their thing. This man had nothing to do with 911 plus we backed his for so darn many years. Makes it like we wish to kill him to shut him up. The Iraq people dislike us because we backed this man and what he did to them. Let them do what they will, That would be fair.

I'm not opposed to torture at all but with Saddam in particular we must to be as judicious as possible for a variety of reasons.

Providence is on our side here, we should keep it that way. I would agree totally that anything nearing torture would be a huge mistake.
