Iraqi insurgency leader Surrenders (Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri) UNCONFIRMED

THE reputed head of the Iraqi insurgency surrendered to US forces at dawn yesterday, Al-Arabiya television reported last night.

The reported surrender of Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri, the highest ranking member of the former regime still at large, follows the arrest at the weekend of two leaders of the insurgency along with Saddam Hussein.

Anti-US raids continued last night in Iraq, with two US soldiers severely wounded in an ambush in Hussein's home town of Tikrit.

The injured troops, one with head wounds, were rushed on stretchers to a US Army 4th Infantry Division base for treatment.

The latest attack on US forces came hours after troops shot dead up to 15 Iraqis in three towns west and north of Baghdad when pro-Hussein protesters stormed regional government offices. One US soldier was injured in that exchange.

If true, this is HUGE! Al-Douri was more responsible for the insurgency than Saddam was.

#7 is the highest one left... and that's the ONLY face card left in the deck, I believe... next highest still at-large is like #13 or 14.

This is the first article I've seen on his surrender without the word 'rumor' in it. I sure hope this is true!

Things are going well. Our patience is paying off. This must really make the dems and the media sad.

Second foreign article on this today. Good news, but I'm still holding breath until the U.S. or U.K. forces confirm.

I would think it would be all over the news, if true. I think the source may be suspect here. Waiting for further confirmation.

I'm taking this with a grain of salt. Not the first time we're heard of him being captured.

From an AP story today:

"...Myers cast doubt on regional news reports about the arrest of Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri, who is the highest-ranking member of Saddam's former regime still at large and is thought to be organizing anti-U.S. attacks.

"We heard the same thing. We chased that down. We are not aware that has taken place," he said...."

Disinformation? but which side?
