On paper, the job of San Francisco mayor is supposed to be nonpartisan.

In practice, it's been more than four decades since voters elected anyone other than a Democrat to run this city, where the political spectrum seems to run from left-of-center to liberaler-than-thou.

Why would it surprise anyone if a Green was elected to lead San Francisco? A more liberal city doesn't exist in America.

I hope the Greenie wins. Then SF can collapse into the Pacific under the massive weight of socialism.

It gets pretty bad when the RATS have to call out their heavy hitters to re-elect a mayor. :O)

I am quite prepared to cede San Frangayco to every left wing, radical, enviro-freak, Manson-loving organization that wants it.

If they congregate there the rest of the country will be considerably more normal!

Call me crazy, but wasn't Frank Jordan the Republican Mayor of San Francisco in the 90's?

This article doesn't mention SurveyUSA's polls which have Gonzalez narrowly ahead. Very unusual demographics; 18-34 year old voters very strong for Gonzalez, 55+ very strong for Newsom, and although older voters are more likely to vote than younger voters, the disparity isn't as large as in other cities.

Newsom made a deal with a former rival and got her endorsement, and Willie Brown played the race card against Gonzalez. These moves have the potential to backfire. It's going to be a bumpy ride.

We'll see if tonight's debate makes a difference.

Does that mean that Dianne Feinstein becomes mayor again?

It wouldn't. We elected Schwarzenegger governor.

Electing a green means that the city will be openly communist. You can't elect communist leaders and expect to keep your republic.

This country needs laws to prevent communists from holding office. Many of our current problems stem from people with communist philosophies who are elected to office. Many states still have on the books that members of the communist party cannot hold office, it needs to be updated to include all the flavors of communism that are finding a foothold in this country.

And it's going to become (more) dangerous just to walk down Market Street to my office from the Ferry Terminal, as every feral lunatic west of the Mississippi decides to set up camp here to collect the free money the homeless profiteers are handing out. I wish the management at my company would wise up and relocate out to the suburban East Bay, but I guess the business taxes just aren't high enough yet to make them scream. Gonzalez should take care of that. He'll get rid of all those pesky tourists, too, so the bike messengers can enjoy their lattes in peace.

Terminating Gray Davis decapitated the Democrats;
Losing San Francisco to the Greens will tear out their Heart!

This will come to a head when AlGore visits to endorse the Willie Brown tool Newsom. The Gonzalez Greens might protest, blowing the split up onto the national scene.

Hillary has no chance against Bush with the Greens siphoning off Democrat votes, led by the Mayor Of San Francisco.

I'm here. I'm voting FOR Newsom. In fact I already voted.

The good news is that Hallinan will probably be toast.
