That is exactly my question. Why the F*** were these dudes driving by themselves, and if they were allowed to do so, WHY? Someone's head needs to roll if they were given permission to do this.

We need to stop screwing around and lay down some hard and fast rules for road travel, for example you must be in an armored vehicle and in sufficient numbers to respond to attacks. The chain of command needs to start dealing some harsh discipline for anyone or group that doesn't maintain good security out of base.

The Army could start by taking some lessons from the Marines.

although I usually do not side with jarheads, as they make lousy spagetti on Marine Corps League night at the VFW (good meatballs though) and they never let me win anything in the football pool (I know you guys rig it)... I gotta go with this one- Marines always travel with a heavy force protection package, even if it's just a log run, and they smoke up anyone and anything that even looks cross eyed at 'em...and this ain't Mogadishu, and we ain't gonna run...Semper Fi to all you former Marines out there...gimme the Giants and 7...
