There are good and bad people in every religion, in every group, in every walk of life. But the difference with Islam is in the doctrine itself. You can find bad doctrine in the Bible too. Read Exodus ("Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live." or "If a child should curse his mother or his father, then that child shall surely die.") or Leviticus. Or the Hebrew attack on the innocent Canaanites, justified because God said so.
Most old religions have a violent past, in history and doctrine. Religion, like man, evolves.
Your attempting to assign moral equivalence. I don't see moral equivalence between Islam and any other religion. No other religion is so firmly rooted in the doctrine of killing everyone who is not in your religion. Jesus said "love your neighbor as yourself" and then some bad Christians went out and ignored his words. Mohammed told his followers to cut off the heads of any neighbor that wouldn't convert, and good Muslims obey.
It's not moral equivalence. It's dramatic difference.
By the way, I am not a religious person.
