A 1934 map showed the depth of
Atlantis in the Atlantic Ocean.
Despite the efforts of archaeologists,
geologists and divers, however,
the lost continent remains a fantasy.

"The tale of the lost continent has sent respected classical scholars to their texts for corroboration that Atlantis was more than fantasy."If there is any truth at all to the legend of Atlantis, I believe the ancient civilzations of South America may hold part of the key. Clearly there were, pre-Aztec and pre-Inca, magnificent cities in the plains, supported by advanced agricultural projects. This area has not been investigated properly, having been overgrown by jungle and apparently never civilised.
The volcanic explosions and destruction of Mediterranean Islands may have colored the actual fate of the Atlantean Civilisation, which may simply have been a dwindling of influence due to climatological change or disease vectors. Once the trade channels collapsed, or the people fled the cities, the jungle would rapidly take over.
