Bill Maxwell can't seem to remove himself from the share crop picking days of his youth. He is a contradiction. His family encouraged his studies. He writes passionately that blacks need to embrace education and rejects the idea being educated is "acting white." He rails about the self-destruction of the black man but proudly announces he'd rather vote for the party that rejects vouchers, than for a Republican. I'd say the Democratic Party is not your friend Mr. Maxwell, they are your worst enemy.

Mr Maxwell, you write, "The Democratic Party has done the most for us."

I say the Republican Party beliveves you can do more for yourself. The GOP believes in your ablility to succeed. The Democrat Party wants you to need them.

Bill Maxwell: Poetry can provide a powerful surprise*** Stereotype, n., v., a simplified and standardized conception or image of a person, group, etc., held in common by members of a group.

One of my former students wrote the other day expressing concern for her son, a graduating senior at Dillard High School in Fort Lauderdale. Muscular, big and a fast runner, the young man has a college football scholarship.

The problem is that he carries a secret that, if exposed, will subject him to almost-certain ridicule: He loves and reads the poetry of Gwendolyn Brooks, he writes excellent verse and he wants to study English and become a poet of the non-hip-hop kind. I was told of his plight because mine was similar when I was his age, which I had shared with his mother and her classmates.

Like I was at 17, this young man is a victim of one of black culture's self-imposed stereotypes: dark-skinned black males are dumb.

……………….. Why does Colin Powell incite such interest and awe among whites? Why do so many white people think they like him and would vote for him? Because he makes them feel comfortable by defying the old stereotypes about the black male. Fortunately, birth gave Powell fair skin and a fairly decent grade of hair. His environment gave him the blessing of good speech and easy manners, traits that defy the old stereotypes.

I discussed all of these ideas with my former student. What, she asked, should she say to her son about his desire to major in English? I advised her to help him find ways to avoid the stereotypes that will hurt him, that will cause him to play out society's expectations, that will automatically define him.***

_____________________________________________________________

Listen to your own advice, Mr. Maxwell and don't stereotypically hand your vote to the Democratic Party.

Maybe if he didn't live in liberal moron land, he wouldn't be surprised about the term "yellow dog Democrat".

What an idiot.

So I guess he would vote for Zell Miller over Olympia Snow.

On that vote, I would agree with him.

We are, according to Just Politics, "unswerving" party loyalists.

They are, according to dyed_in_the_wool, idiots.

Without trying, I can think of many ways that Republicans have been intentionally cruel to blacks and other groups.

Name one. Come on Bill, name one.

The author of this article is really behind the times. In modern parlance, the phrase "Yellow Dog Democrat" has been replaced by "Blue Dress Democrat."

As always, the most loyal Yellow Dog Democrats are African-Americans. Oh, sure, you hear big mouths, such as Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson and NAACP leader Kweisi Mfume, go on about blacks not letting the Democratic Party take them for granted. But such talk is showboating nonsense. Blacks have hardly any reason to get in bed with Republicans. The modern Democratic Party (I am not talking about "Dixierats") expresses our values, our goals, our aspirations. The Democratic Party has done the most for us.

Maxwell starts out on the money, then (as is his norm), he shoves his foot in his mouth.

He falls into the standard liberal trap of believing that the Democratic party has nothing but the best of intentions for blacks. He refuses to take the next step (probably because it is not an easy step to take - it involves looking deep within yourself as opposed to taking the emotional rabble as gospel)

He insists (as many blacks who are on the liberal plantation do) that everyone on the right is racist. Oh, sure we have our share of knuckle-draggers (even some here on FR fall in that category, sadly), but overall, the right is nowhere near the race-baiting, race-hating crowd that the left would paint us.

When confronted with example after example of blacks who have thrown off the shackles of liberalism, and who gladly attempt to reach back to help, Maxwell, like many others, find it more convenient to make personal attacks than to discuss issues rationally.

Pathetic. Simply pathetic.

Black conservative ping

If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)

Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.

But yet the author does not list any examples. What a surprise! Not.

J.C. Watts, Clarence Thomas, Condi Rice, Colin Powell and others have cast their lot with the devil

I thought I felt Satanic today...

Pathetic. Truely pathetic.

Here is a simple definition of Yellow Dog Democrats: If the only candidate on the Democratic ticket is an old cur yellow dog running against a highly regarded Republican, we would vote for the yellow dog. Period.

Just like many on FR... no thought process or intelligence behind the decision, just blind adherence to their own off-base assumptions about what party affiliation means about a candidate and/or a person.

All of the intelligence of Zero Tolerance policies, coupled with the effectiveness of Zero Parenting (never admonishing a child when they do wrong), all wrapped up in one voting strategy. How nice.
