Pretty good article, and advice.

Charley should stick to writing about this sort of thing.

By all indications, the .40 S&W is a great manstopper. But personally, I just shoot a .45 ACP much more accurately. And I prefer the sound and the recoil qualities of the big round as well.

Killing for the sake of honor is no longer allowed in our decadent society — more's the pity, as it would greatly improve manners.

That's johnhuang2 quote of the day material. ;-D

Actually I will answer my own Q. I have 40s but 1/200 times I get a jam. Not a prob on the range but those odds will go up if I am limp wristing or doing something else wrong while under stress. That is why I too have gone back to the old 357mag revolver for carry and car. Just pull the trigger, son. At home I still have the two Glocks I figure if one jams I will use the NY reload

I happen to be in the market right now for a new carry gun. My job sometimes takes me into some unsavory Philadelphia neighborhoods (although I only make those appointments for the morning and after 5 years I have never had a problem). My little Sterling .25 doesn't cut it anymore. The magazine is shot and it is tough finding a replacement.

Anyway, do you have any recommendation for a small gun that would slide comfortably into a jeans pocket (I'm thinking of summertime here)? Something reliable. I just want to carry something that will allow me to escape; something that will slow a bad guy down at close range, like with a shot to the throat or the face. I keep the heavier firepower (a .357) in my glove box but I want something that I can carry as inconspicuously as possible in my pants pocket.

Thanks in advance if anybody has a recommendation.

You will hear some suggest the Kel Tec P32 (.32ACP caliber). It is very small and is what I carry when nothing else will go in the pants. But it is still classified as a "mouse gun".

Frankly I would put the first few rounds in the center of mass and then try the tricky face/neck shots. P32 has a 7 shot clip I think

I disagree with Reese about his comment concerning the guy's gun. It was a .38. There's no reason for guesswork just to prove a point.

Kel Tec P32 (.32ACP caliber).

Kel-Tec now makes a .380 in exactly the same size -- 10 ozs fully loaded, and 3/4 of an in. thick. It holds one less round that the P32 (6+1)

It was a .38.

I've read that it was a .22 more than a few times. .....And I just checked out the stoppingpower.net forum and all the posters there are all under the same impression.

Too much muzzle flash for a .22. My guess would be a higher caliber with some kind of goofy loads

How does it compare to the Kel Tec 9mm?

Goofy loads, for sure. It certainly wasn't loaded with 158 gr. LSWCHP. Perhaps it was a .22 mag. .....the old mafia revolver. Would explain the muzzle flash, anyway.
