BAGHDAD, Nov 11 (AFP) - The US overseer in Iraq, Paul Bremer, left Monday evening for the United States, a spokesman said, adding that he would be back in a few days.

The spokesman refused to give any reason for the unexpected departure.

Bremer cancelled a meeting scheduled for Tuesday with visiting Polish Prime Minister Leszek Miller.

Wishful thinking would be that he is personally escorting Saddam to the USA for Execution.

This news though will only feed the kook fire. Anything that goes down in Iraq, while he is gone, they will say "we knew"

Sigh!

With the status of legal affairs in our American Judiciary System, I doubt they'd bring Saddam to the US. The liberals, media and ACLU would have a field day, week, months, years.

Bremer's apparent quick return signals something else.

I doubt they'd bring Saddam or Osama to the US. Surely, they wouldn't be THAT stupid.

Bremer Returns to Washington Amid Frustration in Iraq

BAGHDAD, Nov. 11 -- L. Paul Bremer, the U.S. civilian administrator in Iraq, is returning unexpectedly to Washington for high level consultations amid continued frustration with the performance of Iraq's U.S.-appointed Governing Council, administration officials said Tuesday.

The Bush administration is considering changes in the structure and timing of Iraq's transition self-governance, including a new Iraqi constitution and elected government, said an administration official involved in Iraq policy in Washington.

In September, Bremer outlined a seven-step plan for Iraqi sovereignty. "It's beginning to be realized that it's not going to follow that path," the official said. "And we need some kind of provisional government that we can give some kind of authority to. The whole political piece is a work in progress. He's got a lot of work to do."

Bremer's mission will be to "consult, consult, consult," particularly on Iraq's political structure, the official said.

One issue under discussion is the sequence of restoring sovereignty to Iraq. The Bush administration appears to be backing away from its earlier insistence that a constitution must be written and ratified by nationwide referendum before Iraqis gain significant sovereignty.

Isn't Bremer the "Civil Administrator"? I thought he was doing a fantastic job at rebuilding the infrastructure. Most of the problems there seem to be the insurgents and they really take the military to resolve.

Iraq is still going well and we will succeed in our objectives.

The hell with 'sensitivity' it never works on barbarians.

As conquerors we must take what is ours and the hell with the rest.

Ann is right. Kill heir leaders and convert them to Christianity.

The American constitution was never ratified by a national referendum, so why should an Iraqi one?

My guess - the governing council
of Iraq has dropped the ball, big
time, & won't meet the timetable
for structuring a government. They
are afraid of being killed by the
bad guys. Bremer wants to see W.
