Hmmm! That's a good point, it would defang Dem opposition to even very conservative judges.
I think they are keeping this as an issue for the next election.
If we can't beat the Dems' filibuster after that I expect the rules change can and will be forced through ( if we still have a majority).

A good time to piss test the senate. The rats will be so pumped up on cocaine and amphetamines that Ritalin will be the meal d'jour in the cloak room. Hopefully Rush taught conservatives a lesson and the republicans can get by on espresso and a long unused substance on the senate floor, testosterone.

They are stalling until there is just a smidge less than a year left, for recess appointments to remain well through the 2004 elections.I'm not questioning the value of some recess appointing, but one must bear in mind that recess appointees are UNPAID. The only persons who could afford to be recess appointees typically are those of independent means.

Yeah well, if the swimmer does not have booze stashed in the cloakroom and is there, he'll look like Byrd....Delirium tremens will mimick the hooded one's movements. (Yes, I'm a cold hearted mean bitch and proud of it.)

I'm betting a "little" isn't in the swimmer's repertoire.

Also I doubt many would want to give up a permanent job for a temporary one that ends when the Congress adjourns.... If they were appointed after Congress adjourns at the end of the 108th but prior to the beginning of the 109th then they could at least serve two years before having to step down should they not be confirmed during the period... That was the one recess Judicial appointment that Clinton made when he appointed Roger Gregory to serve on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit on Dec. 27, 2000.

Great news! Something troubles me, though:
Ive got a sick hand, a sick leg and a sick ear, Sen. Pete Domenici (R-N.M.), 71, said. Im going to have to take the time thats most comfortable for me.
Don't knock yourself out, Pete, it's only the state of the judiciary that we're talking about, and keeping it from the hands of the traitorous left. I'll bet Byrd, who's a heckuva lot older than you, can manage to be there and orate.

These judges, etc. aren't leaving their jobs to be on the circuit court for a single year. They want stability.

but first pass a rule that there will be no reading of the d's bible and constitution, the Karl Mark Communist manefesto.Actually, that would be the perfect thing to be read so as the country could see how it is almost indistinguishable from their party platform.

The 30-hour limit makes sense to me. After this ends, the GOP will quickly be able to see if this helps or hurts the party's efforts. I'm by no means convinced it will help, though I applaud everyone lining up for speeches in support of conservative judges!

...Democrats are so furious...they have their own sign-up sheet for speaking slots. Will be interesting to see which slot the Hildabeast--a freshman senator--gets. With her massive ego and inflated sense of importance, I can't imagine her being willing to accept any of the "graveyard" shifts.
As far as Pubbie speakers go, your comment is right on. Time to quit whining and stand up for principle.
To: section9
Senate Republicans said that their so-called 30-hour plan at least 30 straight hours of uninterrupted debate on judges..... < snip >.....Republicans informed them that the schedule next week would include 30 straight hours of debate on judicial nominations, likely to be followed by cloture votes on two or three judges Friday.I would love to see another 30-hour plan begin the moment the cloture votes fail (as expected). Maybe I'm overly optimistic, but it looks from here like the Republicans are (finally) making a sincere effort to stand up for Bush's nominees.

LH

"Logistically, much of the overnight debate will appear like most business on the Senate floor, with only a few Senators present. At any given time Republicans must have two Senators on the floor, one to wield the gavel and the other to speak. Democrats, however, need only one Senator in the chamber, to speak or, more importantly, to object in the instance that a Republican speaker asks for unanimous consent to move to a vote on any of the contentious nominees."
The republicans need to have one more person on the floor at all times, to watch the lone democrat and give the high sign when he nods off..............
