NASHUA, N.H. -- Howard Dean said Wednesday he regretted the pain he caused by saying that the Democratic Party must court Southerners who display the symbol of the Confederacy in their pickup trucks.
Speaking in New York about campaign finance, the former Vermont governor sought to quell the dispute that erupted over his recent comment and his unwillingness to apologize for it during Tuesday night's debate.
"I regret the pain that I have caused, but I will tell you there is no easy way to do this and there will be pain as we discuss it and we must face this together hand in hand as Dr. (Martin Luther) King and Abraham Lincoln asked us to do," Dean said.

He only regrets the pain because last night he felt some of it. What a pathetic toady.

How can that clown win the nomination? He's constantly sticking his foot in his mouth. I think its gonna be Mr Transluscent; Dick Gephardt

This episode is a perfect example of why the Democratic Party is in disarray.

I missed that meeting with King and Lincoln. I was out getting drunk with Ghandi, Mother Teresa, and the Dali Lama (big hitter, the Lama.)

Abe Lincoln tried to hold hands with me once, but I was involved with someone already who had a fast car.

Poor Dean pulled a Zell. Tried to speak the truth to the Dimocrats and lead them out of the darkness--and he gets creamed by the PC gods. Can't say I'm sorry.

He could have ameliorated some of his pain if he had included those pickup trucks with the 'baby on board' stickers next to the confederate flag stickers by the little kid peeing on the Ford emblem sticker.

Doesn't matter what kind of array they are in, they will still start out with 42-43% OF the vote no matter who heads the ticket

Dean says he wants to court white southerners who sport the confederate flag on thier pick ups. Now he regrets the PAIN he has caused. I don't get it. Who has suffered this pain?
I am a white southerner (Texan, anyway). I don't happen to have a confederate flag on my truck, but whether I did or not, I would no more vote for this governor of New Hampshire or Vermont, or whatever little state he is from, than I would vote for the leader of North Korea. This insignificant twit could not possibly say anything that would cause me pain. I don't care what he says about anything, but what I honestly can't figure out is this: Who does he figure he caused pain to? Southern whites? Blacks? Mexicans? Northerners? Help me out here.
I doubt that he ends up with the nomination, but I would just as soon that he did. I guess he might carry the Republic of Massachuchetts, Hawaii, and maybe whichever state he was the governor of, but that's about it. Even if he dug up Jefferson Davis to be his running mate, there are not enough homosexuals down here (with or without the Stars and Bars) wanting to marry one another to do him much good at the polls.

Yeah, but he's a doctor. Therefore he knows more about the South, pain, apologies, war, health care and even plate tetonics than you, I or any other white Southernor ever born.

Does this mean it is now a "Hate Crime", to seek white, southern male votes?
To: yuleeyahoo
Judging from the results of MS and KY, that might be how the Dems already think.

I believe, in the tradition of Bill Clinton, he is sorry for the pain anybody is experiencing anywhere for any reason, but accepts no personal, moral or legal responsibility for said pain.

Yeah, but he's a doctorFor real? I didn't know that.
I guess that does explain all this "pain" he has caused. He must be a proctologist.
