The problem is easy to identify... he's on CBS.

I think also the fact he isn't funny has something to do with it.

"David Letterman falling further behind Jay Leno in ratings"I can't figure out what Letterman might be doing wrong. But then, I only watch Leno.

The same executives authorized the "Reagan" fiction.
Very, very overpaid executives. Shareholders are getting ripped off.

Maybe they just can't invent ratings like they invented President Reagan's history. Couldn't happen to a better network. I hope their advertisers are listening. See BS you later!

Dave was funny once. Now, he seems to be a bad parody of himself. When he moved to the 11:30PM time slot, he tried to be Johnny Carson instead of Dave Letterman. No more Larry "the Big Man" Melman or "Guy under the seats." Now he spends his time plugging movies for CBS.

I think also the fact he isn't funny has something to do with it.I think he IS funny, watch him often. However, that's about the only show I do watch on CBS.
I don't care for Leno partly because the show is so tightly controlled. Also just couldn't adjust to the stylistic difference between Leno and Carson. The only thing Leno has going for him is he's a car guy.

I still remember his lame-ass interview of GWB when he was running for President.
After GWB told Dave that his money is in a blind investment trust, Dave asked, "So, what companies are you invested in?" GWB replied, "I don't know because my money is in a blind trust. If I knew what companies I am invested in, then it wouldn't be called a blind trust!"
This was after months of Dave making fun of Bush's intelligence. After that interview, I stopped watching his show because it was obvious that Dave wasn't the brightest light bulb in NY.

Jay Leno? The car collector? He has a TV show?
David Letterman? Who's that?

Leno appeals to a more broad section of people than Letterman does.
Leno has this joe six-pack image that people like about him. He's also a lot funnier. Interesting note, he uses the money he earns from stand-up gigs to pay for his day-to-day expenses rather than his multi-million dollar Tonight Show salary.

He's not funny anymore. He used to be. Now he just mails it in every night. He's self-absorbed in his attempts at humor. He finds a gimmick that he thinks is humorous and he proceeds to wear it out. He never really emotionally connects with anyone (e.g. guests). What's worse is, he doesn't even try. His repeated attempts to make Bush look bad in the name of humor are disgusting and tiring. He never gets off his a$$ and gets out of the studio and into the street. That used to be some of the best stuff he did. And then there's Paul Schaffer and the CBS Orchestra (so to speak). I've rarely heard such a lame excuse for an "orchestra". The musicianship is uniformly bad. The arrangements stink. And it sounds like Paul S. must have spent at least 15 seconds composing some of the pieces he uses as intro to specific gigs in the show (e.g. "Is this anything?", "Know your cuts of meat", et. al.). What's worse is that Paul is actually almost funnier than Dave in the back and forth during the show. The whole thing is fishwrap.
Does that about cover it?
