Halloween Heroes and Villains (Free Republic mentioned: guess which they call us?)

...the GHOULISH folks at freerepublic.com...actively continue their "Ithaca is the City of Evil" movement. There's even a shirt sporting that slogan. Interestingly enough, they also frequently post articles from The Sun. Keep reading us, Free Republic, and we'll keep reading you. We've even been considering a "Free Republic: Where your conservative friends can think for you" shirt campaign. But are slogan shirts too passé? Yeah, we thought so, too.

And even though cartoonist Jack Chick and the fine folks at freerepublic.com might like to remind you of Halloween's evil pagan roots, we encourage you to go and enjoy the evening....A warm, fun, interesting Halloween is a rare thing -- even in the city of evil.

Oops. I think we hurt some college kids' feelings.

We've even been considering a "Free Republic: Where your conservative friends can think for you" shirt campaign. But are slogan shirts too passé? Yeah, we thought so, too.

Of course... why would Ithacans waste their time with trite sayings on T-shirts when pastering their trite sayings on bumper stickers are considered so much effective? ;-) Which, of course, Free Republic also sells (we encourage you to go and enjoy the evening....A warm, fun, interesting Halloween is a rare thing -- even in the city of evil.

Happy Halloween back atcha, Cornell....even in Ithaca, the City of Evil.

Eat some fun size candy, put off that paper, check out Bill Cosby's show and enjoy the Collegetown scenery. And don't drink so much that you forget the evening. A warm, fun, interesting Halloween is a rare thing -- even in the city of evil."

The heck with the "fun size" candy. Take the kids in the minivan to the local exclusive neighborhoods and go for the full size candy bars!

So, what are you doing for Halloween?

A colleague of mine, who is a Shriner, invited us to a combination October Fest/Halloween party at the local Shriner's temple. Oompah band and Halloween costumes. That should be very, very strange.

I think they got it wrong. Freepers enjoy Halloween, too. I'm going to dress as an Ithaca citizen. I hope the local costume shop isn't already out of Mindless Zombie suits!

It was fun. Lots of mud though. Cornell did a good job.

I'm going out drinking tonight to avoid the kids. Let my wife deal with them.

According to my Mom, Class of '38 and former Women's Editor of The CDS, you didn't miss much .

I had the pleasure of accompanying my mom to several reunions. In the good old days each class had there own tent with adult beverages and a live band playing music apropos for the classes era. Last time I went the festivities had become much more subdued. The highlight for me was that the acacppela groups had rekindled and a group that recorded at Zink's was there as well. Other than that the liberal wet blanket has pretty much covered the campus.

I always thought Cornell had some great school songs.

Unfortunately, we don't have any candy. So if these beggars er I mean kids come to the door tonight, they're going to get stamps and expired canned food.

I love the Jack Chick reference too! Are any of those old comics on a website anywhere? He was (is?) one weird dude.

The full article was a list, in the eyes of the editorial staff, of "heroes" and "villains" for the past week, and their comments on each.

I saw no reason to require Freepers to wade through paragraph after paragraph of irrelevant listings to get to the part about this site.
