I know that most of you probably don't watch the Today Show, but did anyone else hear Campbell Brown refer to the World Serious Champions?

Seriesly, the odds of Campbell Brown being a FReeper are slim and none. Leaving aside her left-slanted reporting, and while I can't remember the details, I'm quite sure that either her father or brother was an active leftist and involved in some kind of tragedy/scandal.

Sorry for the sketchy details, but that's all I can remember.

Hopefully another FReeper can enlighten us.

I hope not. She is one whiney-voiced, touchy-feely looser. Cute, but that's all she has going for her...

Hmmm..maybe I misunderestimated her. I thought she was the Bush loathing liberal.

OK. I've only been here a couple of months. I keep reading the references to "hugh" and "series". Could someone please point me to the original thread that this stuff references? It sounds like it'd be really fun to read!

Thanks!

Campbell Brown's father was (I believe) the insurance commissioner in Louisiana. Within the past year, he has been convicted on corruption charges and is spending a couple of years as a full-time guest of the federal government. Perhaps some Louisiana-based Freepers can fill in the details. Naturally, he was/is a life-longDemocrat...that should give you some idea of his daughter's political leanings...

I don't remember the original thread, but it was one of those running ones about "Arabs seen filming taco stand near Palo Verdes Nuke Station" or some such. Among the "shower" comments were series, hugh , and vey (very). It just caught on.

I don't have a clue about what you remember...I thought I remembered her being on CNN. But here's her official bio, with no mention of either.

http://www.msnbc.com/news/625103.asp

Did you see Imus with David Gregory this morning? CNN's Anderson Cooper, the daughter of Gloria Vanderbilt, now we find out Gregory is the son of a famous New York producer.

Campbell Brown is a flaming liberal. It's far more likely she's quoting Bugs Bunny.

I think they are common typing errors that became part of the lexicon.A favorite of mine is "knoe"..which created one of those 200 post nonsense threads when someone inadvertantly used it in a title. You'll have to ask others about moose and cheese references!

Egon, the appropriate sequence is to research references to cheese and moose before graduating to hugh and series. I'll be in the shower if you need anything else.

La. Commissioner Brown Convicted; Former Governor Acquitted

Louisinia Insurance Commissioner Jim Brown was found guilty yesterday of lying to FBI investigators, becoming the third consecutive Louisiana insurance commissioner to be convicted of federal charges.

He was convicted on seven of 13 counts of making false statements to an FBI agent. The jury acquitted Brown on the remaining six counts, along with dismissing 43 additional counts of conspiracy, mail and wire fraud, insurance fraud and witness tampering.

However, former Louisiana Gov. Edwin Edwards was acquitted in his second federal trial this year, making some prosecutors reluctant to pursue a third indictment.

"All of the empathy factors are ... in favor of Gov. Edwards," including his age, said Harry Rosenberg, a former federal prosecutor in New Orleans, according to an Associated Press report. "I think people are saying, 'OK, enough already."'

Edwards, 73, was found innocent Wednesday of charges stemming from the liquidation of a failed insurance company owned by Dallas businessman David Disiere. Last fall, Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Jim Brown, Edwards and Shreveport attorney Ronald Weems, 54, along with two others, were accused of conspiring in 1996 to help Disiere avoid reimbursing the state for assets he was suspected of taking from his failing insurer, Cascade Insurance Co.

Brown, despite his 56-count federal indictment in September 1999, won a November run-off election against Allen Boudreaux for a third term in the commissioner's seat. He called his inclusion in the fraud indictments the result of a "political driveby shooting," claiming opponents only wanted to drag him down prior to the election.

He defeated Boudreaux with 57 percent of the vote.

Brown plans to appeal. He will continue as commissioner during the appeals process, but must let an assistant take over his responsibilities.

Edwards was tried in 1985 and again in 1986 on racketeering charges involving health care investments. The first jury deadlocked. The second acquitted him. Edwards has also been implicated in a federal bribery and conspiracy case against former Houston Mayor Fred Hofheinz. The trial is set to begin in January. U.S. Edwards was convicted in May on federal charges of taking payoffs in return for riverboat casino licenses. He is awaiting sentencing.
