Every day Smith stays in the race is one more day that Sununu is kept from beating back Shaheen.

Polls don't mean jack. If polls decided elections, John Engler would have lost to Jim Blanchard in 1990. Spence Abraham would have beaten Debbie Stabusall in 2000. Jesse Helms would not have been Senator. Bush would have won Michigan. Bush would have beaten Gore in the popular vote.

The only poll that counts is election day. My vote would go to Smith if I lived there. Smith is among the best out there. That's not a shot at Sununu, but I will not abandon those that support my views because of what a 'poll' says.

Gee, what's the matter? Is Smith a sound Republican Senator on social issues? Can't have any of that! If Sununu has been sound, we can expect a change as soon as the checks from Planned Barrenhood start rolling into his campaign.

Is Sununu a more dependable quisling on some foreign policy matter? Is Sununu more sympathetic to State Department sucking up to Arafat?

Is Sununu's father too old and discredited to put another David Souter on the Supreme Court? New Hampshire used to be a great state and it used to have a great Republican Party. At the rate it's going, you may as well pull the name of a state at random out of the hat to be first in presidential primaries.

If Bill Loeb were still alive or Mel Thompson, I can just imagine what short work would be made of this presumptuous upstart.

Who is the polling agency in Manchester, New Hamshire, which comes up with such marginally significant results and what percentage of the ownership is in Sununu the Elder?

Hey, you must have some suggestions for who we could nominate to replace Shelby and Sessions in Alabama. After all, Alabama is too moderate a state to risk running as a Republican anyone to the right of John Lindsay, right?

I bet that Malcolm and Susan McLane of Concord are not supporting Bob Smith if they are still alive. I would not be surprised to hear that they support Sununu and, if they do, no Republican should vote for him again.

I could tell you how I really feel but I guess that will suffice. Except: Why, oh why, did Gordon Humphrey make that two-term pledge in 1978? As Vermont goes so now goes New Hampshire.

At least Sununu, whatever his future sellouts, has a somewhat American voting record unlike the ones likely to be compiled by RINOs LAMAR!!! and Liddy Dole. New Hampshire still owes more to America than Sununu.

RINOs should have the dignity to leave the Republican Party and go where they belong. Leave Bob Smith alone.

Another question, what does that pillar of ideological jello, former Senator Warren Rudman, have to do with the backstabbing of Bob Smith. Actual Republicans want to know.

Have the Log Cabin Republicans chimed in for Sununu yet?

I voted for Dubya and will gladly do so again. I don't trust anyone named Sununu any farther than I can throw the Congressional building. From your claim that Republican women won't vote for Bob Smith, I infer that that you think the reason is that Bob Smith is not a Planned Barrenhood favorite and because he graphically opposed partial birth abortion. Senator Gregg shares that opinion as does former Senator Gordon Humphrey. Rudman is the only heretic Republican on the pro-life issue ever to be elected statewide in New Hampshire and he is hardly typical. Gee, even in the allegedly most pro-abort state of California, Republican women more strongly supported pro-life William Simon than did men and RINO riordan got a verfy low female GOP vote.

Granting that Sununu the Younger has a reasonable voting record, he ought to regard himself as fortunate to have a Congressional seat after his father foisted Souter off on Bush the Elder with the connivance of Malcolm MacLane and his wife Susan Maclane. If you don't know who those two are (they sat in the front row as Souter invitees at his confirmation hearings), you do not have a lot of business deciding that Sununu ought to be nominated. Sununu should lay low until people forget Dad's involvement with Souter.

In any event your record of supporting the more spineless allegedly GOP candidate in every race remains intact.

No one knew Seuter was a liberal. In fact the liberals opposed him. You are being unfair - or as you say, you are ranting. That is atypical of you. :)

And your record of supporting in primaries unelectable (or in a few cases less electable) Republicans in the general election remains intact. Fortunately, almost all of the folks you are supporting will lose in the primaries.

Isn't Smith opposing Anwar? Isn't that a FR hot button issue? Poor Bob is trying to go native, in a desperate attempt to save his failing career. It won't work.

I've been spending some time in New Hampshire of late...went to one county's Lincoln Day Dinner last week, and the place was overflowing with Smith supporters.

I don't even think Sununu turned out 10 people...he was so embarrassed by the turnout, he walked out and left before they even announced his presence.

Bob Smith has always been underestimated. No one campaigns harder, or has a stronger grassroots support system. Add to that the fact that he is raising tons of cash, as any incumbent can, and it isn't hard to see a Smith juggernaut crushing the Sununu insurrection.

Contrary to what the liberal media and the RINOs want you to think, Jeanne Shaheen is very beatable. The only reason she beat Gordon Humphrey two years ago is because he was stupid and ran to the left.

Regards...EV

Bob Smith is one of my favorite Senators, one of the few principled ones in the Senate. That the Republicans are trying to dump him says a lot about what's wrong with the Republican party.

Look at Sununu's voting record. He won't do much for us, and every day that he blurs the differences, he increases Shaheen's chances of winning.

I agree with you. Since the GOP is so eager to dump Smith, maybe he should renew that flirtation with the Constitution Party.
