No, Scott County is fairly marginal (Davenport; my mother grew up there; home of Ronald Reagan's first job, and the "science" of chiropractery (sp); my grandfather blackballed the founder (Palmer) from the local country club way back when). The GOP county is out west, but it is a huge outlyier, and for a very special reason. Hint: there is a certain resonance of it in Michigan. As for the Dem county, think Wastennaw and Dane counties.

Yes, Dutch country. Sioux County Iowa is mostly Dutch American. If you look at the voting stats, it simply leaps out at you. It is just, way, way out there. It voted 83% Bush, 15% Gore.

The people's Republic of Johnson County is by far the most liberal (It is the home of Iowa U)...Sioux County, in Northwest Iowa, is by far the most conservative. Something like 92% of the registered voters are R)s...it's the churchgoing Dutch Reformed heritage, you know.

There is a huge Dutch Reformed connection to Sioux Co. Iowa, Pella, Iowa, and the Grand Rapids, MI area...Holland, MI., Zeeland, New Holland, Hudsonville, et al...

My wife is Dutch (even had Vander in front of her maiden name ;-)...she grew up and went to school in Sioux Center Iowa, and her grandparents lived their whole lives in the predominately Dutch area you describe in Michigan.

I lost respect for Howard Philips the last election. I realized his running was about him--not the cause. He ran against GW, not Gore. GW may not be perfect but he's better than Gore. You would never have known it from listening to Phillips (and Buchanan's) ads.

Story County (Ames) is split fairly evenly now. That is just in registrations though. I live in Ames and the place is crawling with RINOs.

I'll work like heck for Salier but I guess if he loses, I'll have to vote for Ganske because he's still better than Harkin.

I admit I'm disappointed in Bush but to say there's no difference between Bush and Gore is ridiculous.

I agree that Bush is conducting the war better than Gore would. On domestic policy though, they were virtually identical.

Keep in mind that Bush barely won this election. Had he been a conservative, he would have blown Gore out of the water.

Nonsense. How many tax cuts do you think Gore would give you? How many pro-life judges do you think he would nominate? How many judges that care anything at all about the Constitution, would Gore nominate? Just the corruption alone was reason enough not to vote for Gore. There's no hint of that type of corruption surrounding Bush.

How many military secrets do you think Bush is willing to sell to foreign countries in exchange for campaign contributions?

You just go ahead and vote for Gore (or whatever Dem gets the next nomination), I'll stick with Bush.

I also haven't heard of any political enemies of Bush being terrorized by IRS, etc.

Bush has not introduced partial birth abortion legislation even though he has the votes. Gore would not have introduced such legislation either.
