In an interview Thursday afternoon with CNN's Wolf Blitzer, Democratic California Rep. Jackie Speier explained the thinking behind an effort from Democrats and a few Republicans in the House to force floor votes on several immigration-related issues, including both DACA and the border wall.
"Will you get those five more Republicans and force a vote on this sensitive issue?" CNN's Blitzer asked.
"I think it really depends on the polling that they're seeing in their districts," Speier said about her Republican colleagues. "I really do think it's self-preservation at this point from any of the Republicans, and that's why you see them willing to join on... So it's time for us to act. That's the biggest problem in Congress right now, is the inability to act on very important issues."
Asked about where she stands on the president's Wall-for-DACA offer, Speier said: "I have said publically before that if what we're doing is build a useless wall for a couple of years that we can then tear down, I'm willing to pay that price to make sure these DACA kids can stay in the country, [but] I'm not willing to put new immigration restrictions that will split up families and the like."
"But if it's just the wall, I would certainly entertain that," Speier added....

I’d say she’s an idiot Democrat, but that’s redundant.
Sadly, she is smarter than most elected Rats.
Why tear it down if it is useless?
How about a “sell by” for “deferred action” and a start date for the wall. No more pussy footin’ around.
And what makes her think we’d let her tear it down once erected?
She won’t have to pull it down.
The Bush GOPe will do it for her.
I really do think it’s self-preservation at this point from any of the Republicans,

She is right about that.
Betrayal of the citizens will be dealt with harshly.
Tearing down taxpayer investments in security. It comes so naturally to Speier. Will she profit on both the construction and demolition?
Shall we close our prison system too so 'families don't get split up'?
Precisely, my good FRiend.
If it did no good, then why oppose it?
Wall first, then , remember the promise the dems made President Reagan?
Remember how they lied
Still waiting for dems to actually express a platform for Americans.
It is useless to Democrats because it does not serve their purposes.
They intend to flood the country with socialist leaning immigrants that will eventually vote for Democrats.
A boarder wall does not support this strategy and just may thwart this goal and thus is useless.
Oh, they’ve expressed their platform alright: Impeach Trump, cancel tax cuts, fully fund Planned Parenthood, protect the Deep State, ban Capitalism, implement and double down on Obamacare, ban free thought and freedom of religion, force homosexuality on children.
I am sure that will sell well in Peoria.
The wall has been approved and is the law. It just hadn’t been funded.
DACA is not the law and is illegal.
Why is this matter up for negotiation?
I got into an argument once with Sherrod Brown. His argument was lets have amnesty first, then we can talk about how high to build a wall and how many border patrol agents we need. His words. I told him he was full of s**t.
Never negotiate with a liberal. They will never fulfill their side of the negotiated position. They have no problem lying and cheating people to reach their ends.
