Conspicuously good numbers for a president whom Democrats despise and whose job approval has been stuck in the high 30s/low 40s for months. Its hard to imagine Dems ever coming around on Trump, especially when so many view his victory as illegitimate due to Russiagate, but between the good vibes over his storm handling and his sudden outreach to Schumer and Pelosi, there may be some Strange New Respect in opinions about him soon.
Of course, if things go to hell in Florida when Hurricane Irma hits, all bets are off.
The President gets especially good ratings when it comes to compassion for the victims of the storm, a trait he is not often seen as possessing. About two in three say he cares at least somewhat about the victims. This is more than the percentage who believes he cares about their own needs and problems, but it is smaller than the share who think he cares about wealthy people. And there has been is no improvement whether people believe the President cares about them personally since before the storm
The public response is not just a partisan one more than a third of Democrats praise the governments reaction. These are very different responses from those recorded in CBS News polls conducted in 2005 shortly after Hurricane Katrina. Three in four then thought the government could have done a better job in the days following the storm, and 80% thought it could have responded faster....

Actually, the only opinion that matters...is that of Texans. If you limited the poll to them...I think the rate of satisfaction would be nearly 80-percent.
I think the same technique will be used in Florida for Irma, and the news media will be sitting there in disbelief that this works so well.
Yay. Another poll. I’ll believe in polls when Hillary actually becomes president as all the polls said she would on Nov. 7. And that will happen NEVER.
Who are the other 45%?
Seriously, what’s to approve of....the First Lady’s choice of shoes?
part of the other 45% are the ones who believe the put up youtubes claiming that blacks were being passed over for rescue and being left to drown (really bad melodramatic acting complete with fake non-tears on that youtube) and rescuers were taking illegals before blacks or Mexican neighbors before blacks, and the ‘white’ rescuers were only rescuing black people to look good for the tv, and, people hadn’t gotten new clothes or new furniture yet, really stupid racist propaganda that the useful idiots fall for
When did hurricanes start having an impact on presidential polling numbers? Was it since the Democrats used Katrina to club Bush?
Why haven’t we heard any polling of the president’s handling of Jupiter’s red spot?
Or his dealings with the grey and Nordic aliens and the technology transfers in exchange for gold.
Kudos....
Darn straight.
Interesting questions you pose. Why is the media using misfortune to rate President Bush. Did they do this to Obama?
if i remember correctly, right after Andrew, thats when Clinton passed Bush for the fitrst time and never lost his lead. I remember the media whining that Bush was slow to respond, and Clinton beat him in going to Florida...
Have we seen an overall approval rating lately?
I am dismayed the Media did mention all of the money donated to hurricane Harvey relief by 0bama, Clintons, Jesse Jackson , and Al Sharpton. You mean these benevolent learned people did not donate? I am aghast

“Who are the other 45%?”
The other 45% are those who would still hate Trump and give a thumbs down even if he managed to usher in the 2nd coming of Christ.....
Non-stop polling is the diseased off-spring of 24/7 cable news. It would be best for the country if both passed into history.
Actually, it was TX Gov. Abbott who was out front of Harvey and got everything organized before landfall.
Yes, but also the Governor of Fla invited Clinton to view the disaster before asking for disaster aid from the Feds. Bush didn’t go there until he was asked. It was all political show, but it hurt Bush as a non caring President. Plus Bush didn’t know the price of bread at the grocery store. Maybe it was deserved as I don’t think Bush gave a rats ass about either one.
