Krauthammer: Removing Trump From Office Would Be A Catastrophic Mistake
Real Clear Politics ^ | August 4, 2017 | Tim Hains

Fox News Channel's Tucker Carlson and Charles Krauthammer respond to President Trump's West Virginia rally.

KRAUTHAMMER: Here's a guy, his numbers are down in the 30s, he's got reports of a grand jury, he's got the walls closing in on him in Washington. He goes out into the country and says, these are my people, these are real people, forget about the numbers, forget about the chatter in Washington, forget about the stories about Russia... But [Trump] represents a huge constituency of tremendous support and enthusiasm.

Admittedly, this is one state where he won his biggest victory of all, but there are other states. His address was to the Midwest, the place where he won the election.

He wasn't so specific on policy, but he said: "I'm bringing you guys back! I'm the only one who listened, you were abandoned."

That's his appeal, that is how he won the election. He's reminding the elites that that appeal is still there.

Tucker Carlson asks Krauthammer about the possibility that Trump could be removed from office, wondering: "If that were to happen, some of these voters might conclude they're not really allowed to pick their own president?"

CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: That is why I worry we are headed into dangerous and choppy Constitutional waters. We know what the Democrats want to do; get control of the House and on day one start impeachment.

I happen to think; as you know I opposed the Trump candidacy. I don't think he is very well fit for the presidency. But fitness is not a reason for impeachment, and removal.....

Multiple grand juries pulled from a poll of voters that are 90% Democrat.

What is the likely outcome?

The republican party has learned to be just like the dems, except they are spineless and do not know how to fight to win. Refusing to back our President, they are turning their backs on 6 million voters. Every day, President Trump makes headway in restoring our nation and they continue in their ‘do nothing’ state of mind... hating the fact there is a man who will keep his promises and get things done, in spite of the most horrendous attacks and efforts to stop him from succeeding.

THINK OF THE STOCK MARKET!

That was the excuse in 1998 to not impeach Clinton and remove him from office.

Just curious: Did Krauthammer ever call Obummer “unfit”?

I wonder how many would really resist? Seems most are happy in their recliners watching their Direct TV in HD.

I'm fairly certain a successful Deep State coup would result in mostly peaceful public protests such as a "march on Washington."

If the authorities forcefully suppress these protests then violence becomes a distinct possibility. After that fuse is lit anything can happen.

It would be worse than that. There would be civil unrest unlike anything we’ve seen.

And I would want it that way.

If they hold Trump to a different standard than they did obama, Bill, or Hillary, it,would be time take our nation back. We must protect our nation from all threats — foreign and domestic.

“Please remind me of the difference between the current group of backstabbing lying traitorous RINO’s in Congress and the Democrats?”

The Democrats don’t have Donald Trump doing their fund-raising for them.

I can’t think of any other significant difference.

I’m not going to get into violence. My heart tells me there would be a poisoning of the spirit of this nation by such activities.

The Republican Party would be complicit because votes of Republicans would be needed to remove President Trump from office.

I suspect Mr. Krauthammer realizes this and he knows what would happen as in the Republican Party being hurt, so he talks about popular support for Donald Trump.

The Democrats closed ranks behind Clinton in the 1990’s. Many grassroots supporters of the Republicans would expect nothing less of them now.

The Kraut is a part of the establishment problem, not the solution. The removal of Trump by the establishment ends the republic for good. Then it could get interesting real quick. The fourth branch of government will not hesitate for a second to turn the the forces of government loose on the people should they rebel against the bureaucrats and establishments illegal actions. They will kill us in droves and tell us it’s our fault and we should be thankful they corrected our mistake. Perilous times for freedom and liberty are upon us!

given that Trump can easily draw 25,000 people in any town, there would at minimum be a total removal of all incumbents in primaries, if not some actual shooting.

“he is no idiot”

His predictions last year were all wrong. I don’t use the word lightly. He is an idiot.

There will be no impeachment of Trump. To impeach the dems need 2/3 of the votes in the senate.

Republicans will never vote to impeach. It would be career suicide. Even the moderates who hate Trump don’t have the balls to oppose him publicly, with the exception of a few.

If they vote to impeach Trump they know that Trump will make it his life’s mission to destroy them.

OANN ran a segment on the polls last night and part of it said only 20% republicans sampled.

“the most they may ever come up with may be rather like the charge that was finally settled on Scooter Libby”

The difference is that Trump is not Bush. He will not be shy about pardoning people if the charges are unfair.

.... “If that were to happen, some of these voters might conclude they’re not really allowed to pick their own president?”....

“Some of those voters” is an understatement. And just how upset. Sounds a lot like the Argentine election process.

Democrats and Argentina...a perfect match.

“Unfit?” So he voted for Hillary? That would be the fit one? She who could not walk across a stage, define a policy or tell the truth. You can’t be that stupid.

A little clarification. The House has the power to impeach, with only a majority vote needed. If the Dem’s take the House in 2018, that vote WILL happen, and Trump WILL be impeached.

But to convict a president - and remove him from office - the Senate must vote to do so by a 2/3 majority.

Details aside, your reasoning is correct. Trump will remain in office, as that 2/3 won’t happen (unless Mueller manufactures some really damning evidence).
