In the whirlwind first weeks of President Trumps administration, it often seemed as though he was trying to enact his entire agenda within his first 100 days in office. On Day 1, he moved to undo parts of the Affordable Care Act. Within his first week, he instituted a federal hiring freeze; issued orders on abortion, immigration and manufacturing; and took the first steps toward building his signature border wall. And on the one-week anniversary of his swearing in, he issued the first iteration of his ban on travel from certain Muslim-majority countries.
In retrospect, the travel ban looks like the high-water mark for the shock and awe phase of Trumps presidency. The ban, of course, was quickly blocked by the courts, and from there his momentum stalled. In recent weeks, the narrative has reversed to the point that some pundits are suggesting Trump is already a failure that Trump, as Josh Barro of Business Insider put it this week, is heading for a do-nothing presidency.
That may be wishful thinking on the part of Barro and other Trump critics, however. Yes, Trump has encountered a string of setbacks, perhaps most notably the embarrassing defeat of his effort to repeal and replace Obamacare. And yes, many key elements of his agenda tax reform, infrastructure spending, a rethinking of U.S. trade policy are still stuck at the starting gate, or in some cases seem to have been abandoned altogether. But Trump has found plenty of other ways to make his influence felt, often by reversing policies put in place by his predecessor, Barack Obama....

The press isn’t used to a President before whose main interests in office as President isn’t playing golf, taking selfies, hob nobbing with Hollywood, and shooting hoops.
Of course he was trying to enact his entire agenda in the first 100 days.
He knew that a small but painfully loud portion of his base was so flimsy that they’d abandon him over the slightest thing, so he had to move fast to keep them quiet.
Making Obama’s illegal DACA program his illegal DACA program was not what I was hoping for.
It undermines all other enforcement efforts.
Only removing the criminals will leave us with 29 million illegal aliens.
“He knew that a small but painfully loud portion of his base was so flimsy that theyd abandon him over the slightest thing...”
That’s never been more apparent than the last two weeks. We have weenies, hand-wringers, Soros trolls and never trump faux conservatives crying like little babies here on FR because Trump didn’t complete his entire agenda in the first 100 days.
You are the “One-note Johnny” of all One-note Johnny’s, that’s for sure.
There were many of us who backed him because of his strong stand on illegal aliens.
As irritating as not moving instantly on DACA right away is, you’re being disingenuous about the 29 million figure. That or perhaps just don’t realize that it looks like you’re trying to say that all 29 mil are DACAs.
Whatever. I don’t like it, but 1: I intend to wait and see, considering that it’s not even BEEN 100 days, and 2: He’s done far, FAR more than any other candidate would have done.
I know, right?
This is why I’ve been hanging around r/The_Donald a lot lately. Faux-conservatives tend to get outed very quickly.
FR is my first home, but The_Donald is a nice vacation spot when I want to get away from all the whining.
Then you should still be backing him, because the actions President Trump has been taking regarding illegal immigration can't be characterized as anything but "strong"...
A lot of names there!
DACA eligible is probably on the order of 3.5 to 5 million.
Their families are triple that.
How can you deport the parents, uncles, aunts, cousins?
Once the 1 million felons are deported, we still have 29 million non-felon illegal aliens here.
None should get amnesty.
DACA recipients are getting amnesty
So take the time to deport the other 20 million and then we’ll go from there once that job is done. Simple, no?
True. But my first job after appointments would have been appointing judges to vacant positions all over the United States. There are 120 empty judges spots. That alone would have been one of the best things he could have done. I personally think he has done great so far, but that judges thing bothers me especially since he only needs 51 votes. Get them done NOW.
Illegal Immigration after Supreme Court has been Trumps most successful. I think he has done exceptionally well with illegal immigration so far. Sure the travel ban sucks, but getting a ton of illegals out of the country so fast is awesome.
A ton? Not really. He is doing boutique deportation of the 1%-ers. We need a general deportation. What he is doing is placating the far right nationalist by throwing them crumbs. Not working, not winning.
Frustrating thing is Trump is not doing things that can be done without congress.
he could reverse each and every obamas EO. Fire all obama political appointees like IRS commissioner, pos FBI director.
The honeymoon period of the first hundred days was to allow a new president to form his administration... Trump had a hundred seconds befor his administration was being attacked... If that.
