Bill Bennett: GOP Leaders Have "Closed Their Minds" To Trump; "Take The High Road" And Talk To Him
RCP ^ | April 22, 2016 | Tim Hains

Posted on 04/22/2016 9:53:10 AM PDT by conservative98

Former Education Secretary under Ronald Reagan, Bill Bennett, says that it is time for the #NeverTrump crowd to give the Republican frontrunner another look.

"We may have a roundtable of [white] knights," swooping in to stop Trump at the RNC convention, Bennett told Fox News Channel's Megyn Kelly on Wednesday. "And I'll be Secretary Arthur."

"Let's look a little bit macro at this," he explained. "There is momentum. Trump really finished big in New York. And Cruz finished third. Very bad for Cruz. Remember Cruz told Kasich, when it became mathematically impossible for Kasich to win, you should drop out of the race. Has anybody made that suggestion to Cruz?"

"Cruz isn't going to do it," he said. "There's something else going on. A lot of the analysis is about the 1,237 as it should be, but I ams eeing a growing sentiment on people who don't like Trump -- That the guy who gets the most votes, if it is a lot, 1,100 or so, well those delegates may just lean in that direction. Because this criticism that Donald Trump is making is having some impact -- that votes should translate to delegates."

[cut]

"They need to think, too, this may be the nominee of their party. They could step up a little bit. They could try to make an effort to talk to Donald Trump. They could take the high road. You took the high road, Megyn... You went over there to see him, which I think was impressive... People have closed their minds on this, closed the door, and I don't think they should"

"They need to think about what this guy is saying that is resonating with people."

The GOP establishment and the Conservative establishment, too. Does Mark Levin want to lose half his audience for 8 years?

“They need to think about what this guy is saying that is resonating with people.”

**********************************

What he is saying that is resonating with people is that we CAN retain the rule of law and our country.

Precisely the opposite of what the RNC/GOP has been working towards for years.
They have been INTENTIONALLY flooding the country with fraudulently documented foreigners for decades with NO intention to enforce the laws and borders.

I read this as an open admission, by a member of the old-line establishment, that the race is essentially over. Bennett is telling us, between the lines, that Trump will be the nominee, and that to avoid both a Hillary victory and the destruction of the Republican Party, the active members of the establishment need to bend a knee in front of the presumptive nominee.

In short, more good news.

That man in the mirror did, but Ted threw a brick at him.

I agree. First time I tuned into Kelly for a long while and Bennett was on. I stayed on to listen and he was very good. Then after he was gone I turned her off. I was really surprised by Bill’s tone.

When he still had his radio program, Bennett was relentlessly anti-Trump; except that he would vote for him over Hillary.

Pretty much but towards the end of his program I remember Bill saying how he reached out to Trump and wanted to help his campaign but nobody got back to him.

He already has. Levin threw the constitution out the window in his support of Cruz, and the few million dollars in establishment money for his fake book sales.

He still has the corrupted half of his audience; he will never regain the trust of the conservative half that left him for good.

Ok, I have been wondering if his impartiality helped him out of the door at Salem Radio. I enjoyed Morning in America very much, since then Hewitt has been nauseating in his dismissiveness of Trump. Recently they had Guy Benson stand in, simply nauseating.

Bill Bennett, doing what rino whores always do, toss the salad. This puke is so bad my dog would not even urinate on him.

After slamming Trump and his supporters, now, late in the game, he looks at the score board and sees Trump is ahead, and begins to offer lewinskys.

Bill you jerkoffcamels.

Very weird column.

The nebulous ‘something going on.’ People love conspiracy theories.

The only thing going on is that the more Trump hangs around, the more you want him to leave.

The 1237 thing is a real number. If he gets there, I guess we’re stuck with him.

If he doesn’t, it’s Contested Convention time.

I know it’s against all known laws of man and nature to support a candidate who is not Trump and Levin certainly should lose all his audience as well as be burned at the stake, so why even bring it up?

Not quite. I listened to one of his last and was surprised by his conciliatory tone toward Trump.

Bennett wasn't born yesterday.

He's getting on the Trump bandwagon.

Watch for more to come....soon.

I noticed that the moment Bennett announced he was retiring he quit toting the establishment line and at least was giving Trump a fair shake.

Without a (financial) dog in the fight Bennett is able to see the bigger picture.

Bennett isn't so much a member of the old line establishment as he is their waterboy. But he hears a lot carrying their water, so this is a sign of softening opposition to Trump by the good old boy network.
