Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney will endorse Sen. Marco Rubio, the Huffington Post reports. The details of the endorsement are being worked out.
It's ironic since Romney, who was largely an absentee governor in the last nine months of his administration, is endorsing someone who didn't bother showing up for work in the Senate that much.
"Romney spent the day in Utah on Saturday and could potentially be in position to bestow his blessing upon Rubio before Tuesday's Nevada Republican caucuses-a contest that Romney won easily in both 2008 and 2012."
"Romney's backing will provide Rubio with the highest-profile endorsement of the 2016 race and is the clearest signal yet that the party's establishment is ready to coalesce around the Florida senator as its last best chance to defeat GOP front-runner Donald Trump."
Somehow that comment Romney made about 47 percent of Americans being deadbeats will be resurrected. I can't see how much good his endorsement will do for Rubio, other than as a way of coalescing around a candidate the Republican establishment can live with.
